how do I fit pontiac 1974 custom 350 fibreglass hood with ram air

Hey guys, I have owned a '74 Firebird custom 350 for about 2 years. A short while ago I decided to open up the ram air scoops and fit a pod type air cleaner body. When I purchased the a/c I expected it to be complete. ie with seals etc to connect to the outlet holes from the scoops. I now have these from another supplier. I also purchased s/s wire grilles to fit into the scoop openings.
My problem is:
1. there are slots cut into the underneath of the front lip of the hood- should these be there?
2. how to i remove the blanks in the scoops without damaging the scoop
3.at the rear end of the hood there are 2 holes covered with wire or fiberglass mesh which i have seals & retaining rings for, however there is a hole the same size as the air cleaner in the centre of thesae 2 'pod' holes. Does it need to be sealed off? I was under the impression that the a/c lid stayed in place!

Hope you can help,
gasco
