The supply of clean early ''60s Impalas is getting smaller every day, with guys jacking them up, giving them bass boat style paint jobs, and other questionable mods. So if you want a good one that''s all finished and ready to enjoy, this 1963 Impala hardtop is worth considering. Ermine White is a classic Impala color, and with a bright red interior, it is a timeless combination that will look just as good in another 50 years. It was repainted 7+ years ago and still looks fantastic thanks to quality workmanship and modern two-stage urethane paint. Nobody tried to create a fake SS or anything like that, so it has a clean, uncluttered look that today is rather unusual at car shows and will make this lovely hardtop stand out. You can see that the sheetmetal is in excellent order, with a reflective surface that looks great, and an enterprising hobbyist could carefully cut and buff the finish to really take it to the next level. The side trim is different than the SS and arguably more attractive, with a simple spear running from the front wheel arch to the rear bumper, plus a pair of hash marks on the front fenders. A simple argent silver tail panel still looks wonderful against the white paint, and the chrome is in excellent condition, including both bumpers and those intricate Impala emblems. The bright red interior features wide bench seats for comfort and lots of legroom for all-day cruises. The front seat was recently reupholstered in correct cloth and vinyl and the carpets are new, but it appears that the door panels, headliner, and even the back seat are original and in remarkable condition. The Impala''s beautiful steering wheel is like a piece of art all by itself and frames a wide speedometer on top of the two-tier instrument panel. A bright piece of trim holds the secondary controls, as well as the original AM radio, with a modern AM/FM/CD stereo head unit and speakers neatly integrated into a custom console. Vintage Air supplied one of their award-winning A/C systems, which integrates neatly with the Imp''s original dash and makes this a favorite highway cruiser. In back, there''s a giant trunk that is properly finished with spatter paint, reproduction mats, and a full-sized spare tire up on its own shelf. Chevy offered a dizzying array of powerplants in 1963, and sitting right in the middle was the 327 cubic inch V8. With 250 horsepower, it was certainly no slouch, and with a few upgrades this one runs superbly. There''s a Rochester 4-barrel carburetor under the original air cleaner, and the block itself was painted a correct shade of Chevy Orange. Reproduction decals help with the authenticity, but upgrades like the modern A/C compressor with R134a refrigerant, an alternator, and a dual-reservoir master cylinder with front disc brakes make it daily-driver reliable. It''s backed by a 2-speed PowerGlide automatic transmission and 3.55 gears out back, so it feels nimble around town but cruises easily at 70 MPH. Twin glasspack-style mufflers and a dual exhaust system give it that familiar ''60s performance sound and you won''t find any major signs of trouble underneath where it''s original but nicely maintained. Air shocks manage ride height and it rolls on 14-inch Rallys with spinners that totally transform their look and a set of 225/70/14 Firestone radials. Big Imps like this never sit around for long, and with classic colors and all kinds of drivability upgrades, this one is sure to go fast. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom.
