Description:

This 1972 Chevrolet Nova has come a long way from its commuter car roots. Instead of being a reasonably economical and practical 2-door sedan, it''s been transformed into a sizzling orange performance machine with 383 cubic inches'' worth of stroker motor, a hardcore interior, and underpinnings that can put all the horsepower to work. Yeah, this is definitely better. Painted four years ago and still crisp and fresh, this gorgeous Nova has a classic muscle car look. The paint is actually from a mid-80s Camaro color pallet, with just a bit of pearl mixed in, so it glows even in our studio. The shop tasked with the job knew their stuff, because it''s very nicely done with good gaps and panels, something that''s doubly important on a car like this because there are no body side moldings to hide behind. You''ll note that most of the badges and emblems were shaved and a 4-inch Harwood cowl-induction hood was installed, giving it an aggressive look. And you probably shouldn''t mess with a car with a black racing stripe down its center, you''re bound to get stung. All the chrome was replaced when the car was painted four years ago, and it''s holding up very well, adding some bright contrast to the orange paint. This Nova''s grocery-getting days are long gone, and the stodgy old bench seat has been replaced by a set of lightweight race buckets. Once you''re settled in place, they''re quite comfortable and supportive, and given the acceleration that this car can generate, they''re probably not a bad idea. Fresh carpets, reproduction door panels, and a factory steering wheel keep it from being too industrial-strength in there, and the factory instruments are joined by a big Auto Meter tach on the steering column and auxiliary gauges under the dash. Creature comforts are at a minimum, mostly because they add weight and don''t make the car go any faster, but there is an AM/FM radio in the dash so it doesn''t look naked. On the other hand, the heater and defroster are gone and the big B&M shifter in the middle leaves no doubts about this car''s intentions. There''s still an original back seat that''s in very good condition and the trunk is outfitted with an older mat that continues the minimalist theme. But the real story on this Nova is the 383 cubic inch small block, which makes massive torque and loves to rev. The internals are built for combat, including forged flat-top pistons, a big solid-lifter camshaft, roller rockers, and a wicked cackle that will definitely attract attention. Edelbrock supplied a Victor Jr. intake manifold which is mated to a Holley 850 carburetor that offers instantaneous throttle response. It''s linked to a built TH400 3-speed automatic transmission with a reverse valve body and a TCI 3500 RPM stall torque converter and out back there''s a 12-bolt rear with 4.10 gears and a Posi unit inside, so this sucker lunges off the line. Long-tube headers and a Flowmaster dual exhaust system add to the already prodigious torque output and 4-wheel discs were installed to keep the party from getting out of hand. Shiny Weld Pro-Star wheels add an appropriate drag-race look and carry staggered 185/65/15 front and 275/60/15 rear blackwall radials. Bloody fast and very nicely finished, this Nova doesn''t pull any punches and delivers exactly the performance you''d expect from a car that looks this nasty. Call today!
