Description:

This ''62 Corvette Roadster, Serial No. 20867S114531, is the final 1962 Chevrolet Corvette produced - THE LAST STRAIGHT AXLE CORVETTE.When it debuted at GM''s Motorama in 1953, the Chevrolet Corvette was an instant hit, with performance improvements added each year. By 1956, the Corvette had an all-new look with twin headlamps and concave side scoops, and the optional six cylinder engine was no more. The C1 received another facelift in 1961, losing the toothed front grille and gaining a high-performance 327ci V8 powerplant. After nearly a decade, Chevrolet ceased production of the first-generation C1 Corvette, introducing the new Stingray C2 Corvette for ''63.This ''62 Corvette Roadster, Serial No. 20867S114531, is the final 1962 Chevrolet Corvette produced, the last C1 Corvette to have rolled off the production line. For the Stingray, Chevrolet made the switch to an independent rear axle, also making this the last solid-axle Corvette.Restored in the mid-1990''s, this Corvette has been in the care of the same owner for nearly half a century. He purchased the car on March 17, 1965 from Garrard-Milner Chevrolet in New Orleans, LA, paying $2,150.000 for what he thought would be "a fun summer toy", not even realizing it was the last of its kind. The car presents well in Tuxedo Black with a Fawn Beige colored interior, monochromatic coves, and beige soft top. It also comes with its factory original removable hardtop, which is un-restored, but complete.Driven and enjoyed by one enthusiastic owner for nearly its entire life, it remains ready to enjoy today. The 327ci/300hp V8 under the hood revs freely, the suspension is tight and responsive, the 4-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly. In all, The Last C1 delivers just as exemplary an experience from behind the wheel as it does as an important historical milestone.
