Description:

1968 Plymouth Road Runner   History   The Plymouth Road Runner was a performance car built by the Plymouth division of the Chrysler Corporation in the United States between 1968 and 1980. In 1968, the first muscle cars were moving away from their roots as relatively cheap, fast cars as they gained options. Although Plymouth already had a performance car in the GTX, designers decided to go back to the drawing board and reincarnate the original muscle car concept. Plymouth wanted a car able to run 14-second times in the quarter mile and sell for less than $3000. Both goals were met, and the low-cost muscle car hit the street.   Paying $50,000 to Warner Brothers to use the name and likeness of their Road Runner cartoon character (as well as a "beep, beep" horn, which Plymouth paid $10,000 to develop), and using the Chrysler B platform as a base, Plymouth set out to build a back-to-basics muscle car. Everything essential to performance and handling was beefed-up and improved; everything nonessential was left out.      VIN RM23H8G250021   This beautiful two door hardtop spent its entire life in California. The frame-on restoration was done in 2006. See our photos for information on the numbers for the engine and transmission.   Receipts documenting the entire restoration are included in the sale.     Mechanics   Numbers Matching 383ci/335hp Engine, Rebuilt with 1,000 miles   Numbers Matching 4 Speed Manual Transmission   Sure Grip Rear End with 3.23:1 Gear Ratio   Holley Street Avenger 670cfm Carb   Original Carb is Included in the Sale   Manual Drum Brakes   Manual Steering   Dual Exhaust System with Dual Tips   Rebuilt Alternator   New Heater Core   Parking Brake   Rebuilt Front End   Replaced Gas Tank     Body   Beautiful Blue Metallic Paint, Painted in 2006   Great Looking Grille   Gorgeous Chrome Bumpers   New Front Windshield   Doors Fit and Operate Properly   Door Lips and Jambs are Clean and Solid   Stainless Trim is in Great Shape   Quarter Panels are Solid and Straight   New Trunk Floor is Solid and Beautifully Painted   Mat and Spare Tire in Trunk   Original Drop Downs   Nice and Solid Frame   Undercarriage has been Restored   Floor Boards Look to be Original   Undercoating is in Great Shape   Pinch Welds in the Rockers Look Great   Solid and Clean Wheel Wells   Correct Magnum 500 Wheels   New BF Goodrich Radial Ta''s 225/70/15 Front and Rear     Interior   Complete Interior Restoration   Hurst Comp Plus Shifter   Pioneer FM/CD radio   Original Radio is Included in the Sale   Beautiful Steering Wheel   Dash is in Excellent Condition   Great Looking Door Panels   Beautiful Upholstery   Seatbelts Front and Back   New Weather Stripping   Headliner Fits Tight Across   Working Dome Light   Speedo Works   Tach Works   Radio Works   Fan Works   Wipers Work VIN & Fender Tag Decoding VIN Decoding: RM23H8G250021 R = Plymouth Belvedere/Satellite Car Line M = Medium Price Class (Road Runner) 23 = 2 Door Hardtop H = 383 1-4BBL CID 8 = 1968 G = St. Louis, MO Assembly Plant 250021 = Serial Number Fender Tag Decoding: Row 1: R = Plymouth Belvedere/Satellite Car Line M = Medium Price Class (Road Runner) 23 = 2 Door Hardtop 62 = 383 1-4BBL CID (330 HP) 3 = 4-Speed Manual Transmission 44 = F70 x 14 Redline Steel Wheels 529 = May 29, 1968  HPHPScheduled Production Date 315800 = Shipping Order Number Row 2: 2: 535 = Drip Rail Moldings A: Axle: 404 = 3.23:1 8 3/4” Rear End X: 405 = Sure-Grip TRM: H4B = High Trim Grade, Light Blue Vinyl Split Bench Seat PNT: QQ1 = Bright Blue Metallic Body/Roof Paint Monotone U: U = Light Blue Upper Door Frame S: 31W = White Horizontal Accent Stripe Row 4: R: Radio: 421 = AM Music Master Radio T: Gauges: 577 = Tachometer   Production Numbers: 1968 Plymouth Road Runner Total Production: 44,598 1968 Plymouth Road Runner Hardtop Production: 15,539 1968 Plymouth Road Runner Hardtop 383 1-4BBL: 15,166 1968 Plymouth Road Runner Hardtop 383 1-4BBL 4-Speed: 6,686 Engine: Casting Number: 2468130 Displacement: 383 cu. We have a brand new, state-of-the-art, 30,000 square foot facility that is open to the public. We would love for you to stop by and see us! We are located 20 minutes away from Detroit Metro Airport, and would be happy to pick you up and drop you off if you fly in. New cars arrive daily, and our inventory is always changing.   Vanguard Motor Sales owns all of our inventory, we are not a consignment dealership. You are dealing directly with the owner of the vehicle, not a middle man. Every car we purchase is of the utmost quality. Our mission is to exceed your expectations!   If you are interested in this car, or any of our other 125+ cars, don’t wait for the auction to end on eBay. Call us immediately! You may lose out if you wait! Remember, our showroom is open to the public. When a walk-in customer puts a deposit on a car we reserve the right to close the eBay listing before the auction ends. If you think this car is “The One”, we can end the auction by adding a “But It Now” to the auction for the reserve price. If an auction ends and the bids do not meet the reserve price, we will continue to relist it until it sells. Do not hesitate to contact Tom 7 days a week!   We take over 100 photographs of the car, as well as a high definition video, so you know exactly what to expect. We encourage you to hire an independent inspector to check out the car, prior to purchase or bidding. We have a hoist available for views of the undercarriage, and our mechanics are available to speak with if you have any questions.   Vanguard Motor Sales has sold classic and muscle cars to customers in the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, France, Norway, the UAE and many other countries. We are experts in over seas shipping and handle all of the details. The shipping companies we work with are insured so your vehicle will be safe and secure during transport. We ship all of our vehicles enclosed, so they leave our shop clean and they are delivered to your driveway clean.   We''ve built our reputation on selling high quality cars honestly and fairly. We have up-front, no haggle pricing! Call Tom today, and let Vanguard Motor Sales park your dream in your driveway!   248-974-9513   We make every effort to represent this vehicle as accurately as possible and to the best of knowledge at the time of listing. Content is based on inspection, research and/or information provided by previous owner(s). We encourage buyers to make a thorough, independent inspection and investigation to verify the accuracy of any claims to originality, history, equipment or other information provided prior to the purchase.
