Description:

A well prepared race and rally ‘flat Floor’ E-TypeBills for many thousands of pounds from CKL DevelopmentsNew HTP papers just issuedPraise for the Jaguar E-Type, since its launch at the Geneva Motor show in 1961, is exhaustive. There seems to be a poll for everything nowadays – greatest ever car, best looking car, prettiest car from the 1960s, the most iconic. The compilations go on and on. But at the top of every list – or if not the top, somewhere near to top – is the Jaguar E-Type. Even the most cynical of car enthusiasts cannot fail to admit that the E-Type is beautiful. There are few cars about which that can always be said. Yes, the looks perhaps faded in its old age, but when new both the roadster and the coupe were, and this word is no over exaggeration, sensational.Offered here is an early ‘flat floor’ Roadster. Interestingly, although the original distributer was Henlys of London, the dealer is classed as ‘Personal Export Delivery’, which would account for it being a Left Hand Drive. It was attributed the number plate ‘179 WK’, so it must have lived in the UK for a period before being exported to the United States. The original exterior paint colour is noted as Cream, as it is today. Being built in October 1961, it is one of the first 1000 built.Whilst details of its early life are not known, it was prepared for racing in 1980 for Mack Besser, who had originally bought it in 1972. Log Books for the ‘Vintage Sports Car Drivers Association’ show it regularly competing throughout the 1980s, Besser keeping a careful log. The Jaguar returned to the UK in 2005 and was immediately prepared for road and race use by CKL Developments, leaders in the field of Jaguar restorations. That year, it completed The Tour Espania.Recently issued with a new set of HTP Papers, it is prepared to run in the F.I.A Period E specification, which is from 1947 until 1961. Still on 3 SU Carburettors, the engine gives a high level of hp and sits nicely on triple laced wire wheels. This E has competed at the Le Mans Classic as well as numerous rallies including, most recently, The Scottish Malts Regularity Test. Whilst it proved itself well on the demanding roads of Scotland, it is as home on the track, clearly shown at the inaugural Goodwood 72nd Members Meeting. With bills for numerous thousands of pounds, this well-prepared E-Type opens the door to the abundant number of road and track events for which it is eligible and is ready for them all.
