This is the kind of car that you can recognize blocks away, whether itÐ¿Ñ-Ð...s the trim hardtop profile or the traditional trip taillights that were unique to the Imp. Driving this car is like dating a movie star, and you should be ready for question and answer session every time you stop for gas. The Tuxedo Black paint will stand up to scrutiny, and looks like a million bucks up close. ItÐ¿Ñ-Ð...s a quality restoration that has just the right look of originality, making it a fantastic cruiser thatÐ¿Ñ-Ð...s always properly dressed for an event. Fit and finish are quite good, with doors that fit nicely without needing to give them a hard slam. The sheetmetal is incredibly straight, so the black paint is a big bonus, not a demerit, because it shows none of the usual flaws a lesser car might have. Chrome and trim is quite good, including the delicate Impala badges on the quarters and crossed-flag emblems up front. The interior is pure Ð¿Ñ-Ð...60s style, a blend of conservative patterns and shiny trim that looks awesome today. The Impala is particularly interesting due to its unique blend of performance and luxury, making it a rather stylish gentlemanÐ¿Ñ-Ð...s express. The seats wear reproduction covers with proper button-tufted seat backs, thereÐ¿Ñ-Ð...s new carpeting with original-style rubber floor mats, and the door panels show an artistÐ¿Ñ-Ð...s touch. The instruments in that sweeping engine-turned dash are crisp and well-marked, and a rare accessory tach has been mounted on the steering column and upgraded to electronic internals. Being a non-SS with a 4-speed is quite a find, and it looks especially butch with the bench seat, as if it doesnÐ¿Ñ-Ð...t care what people think it should be. It also includes the original AM radio in the dash and the trunk is neatly finished with zero rust and a full-sized spare. The engine of choice here is a 327 cubic inch small block in 250 horsepower spec. Dressed just the way the factory did it, there were no liberties taken during the restoration. Correct pieces include the air cleaner, stamped steel valve covers and the barrel-shaped fan shroud. Reproduction decals have been affixed in the right places, and it proudly advertises its horsepower rating right on the valve covers. Alternators were not yet part of the package, so this one carries a correct generator that still works as it should, as well as a fresh single master cylinder on the firewall. A new exhaust system with glasspack-style mufflers sounds flat-out awesome and definitely gives this formal ride an attitude. Original 14-inch wheels wear spinner hubcaps and recent 215/75/14 Michelin whitewall radials. A very pretty car with an unusual powertrain combination, this Impala will always be on the A-list.
