Description:

When you''ve got the horsepower, there''s really no need to be subtle about your appearance. This wicked red 1968 Chevrolet Camaro doesn''t have anything to prove, not with a 383 cubic inch stroker motor under the hood, a sizzling red paint job, and oversized rolling stock that give it an aggressive look. If all that appeals to you, read on, because this is a pretty darned cool car. Even stripped of all its badges, you know this Camaro means business. The bright red paint reaches out and grabs you by the throat and doesn''t let go. White SS stripes always look great on the F-body shape and nothing implies performance better than they do. Fit and finish are quite good, not perfect, but certainly nice enough to generate compliments from the guys who have already heard it run. There''s some orange peel that''s a natural by-product of modern 2-stage urethane paints, and a professional cut-and-buff session would probably pay big dividends. A cowl-induction hood was added during the build and all the chrome and stainless trim was either refinished or replaced to give it a crisp, highly detailed look. They got the little stuff right, too, like nice reproduction taillight lenses, a retractable antenna on the rear deck, and nice glass that doesn''t have that beat-up look that some old cars get. If you''ve driven an early Camaro before, you''ll feel right at home in this ''68 hardtop. New seat covers for the front buckets give it a nicely finished look, and while it has a center console to dress things up a bit, it has a definite no-frills attitude that''s actually rather appealing. Stock gauges, a factory steering wheel, and a mostly OEM look means that despite the flashy paint, this car was intended to keep its horsepower somewhat of a secret. The only notable modification is a modern AM/FM/CD stereo head unit, and admittedly, factory A/C is a nice plus. If we had to guess, we''d say that the back seat is original, indicative of this car''s easy life pre-makeover, but things like the carpets and door panels are just too nice to be coming up on 50 years old. The trunk includes a reproduction mat that fits pretty well, too. But the real reason this car stands out is the 383 cubic inch stroker motor under the hood. With big block levels of power and the weight of a small block, it definitely brings the thunder. An Edelbrock intake manifold and Holley 4-barrel carb handle the air and fuel, while a reproduction exhaust system manages the fumes. It has an industrial-strength look under the hood with those aluminum valve covers and the Edelbrock air cleaner really dresses things up. You''ll note that the A/C has been upgraded to R134a refrigerant and with power steering and brakes plus a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission, it''s docile enough to drive in traffic without getting cranky. The chassis and undercarriage are in good order with a new gas tank hanging out back, monoleaf springs for the rear axle, and new shocks all around. Big 17-inch Cragar wheels fill out the wheel wells and carry 245/45/17 performance radials. For those of you who prefer to walk softly and carry a big stick, well, this isn''t your car. But if you like visibility to go with your horsepower, then this ''68 Camaro has a lot to offer. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom.
