Description:

The appeal of an old pickup truck is that you can have a fun hobby vehicle that''s also practical. This handsome 1950 Ford F-1 is dressed in subtle cream paint with a bit of period patina, but underneath is the flathead V8 you''ve always dreamed of owning, all for an incredibly reasonable price. Perfectly restored trucks are fine if you''re looking for static art, but if you enjoy driving and yes, occasionally using your truck to haul stuff, what you want is one that has some character. This one has been freshened along the way but never torn down and restored at the molecular level, so it has a bit of patina that''s always welcome on a vintage pickup. That also means you can enjoy it properly and maybe even put it to work, so you won''t be checking the weather every time you open the garage. The basics are quite good, with straight, solid factory sheetmetal throughout and a fit and finish that is entirely appropriate to an old truck, making it just right for those weekend trips to the garden center or parts store. The bed has that old-fashioned vibe with wood that''s got some age on it and painted metal strips to add some contrast. Painted bumpers, a single side mirror, and the iconic Ford grille up front all add to the honest, durable vibe that makes this truck so appealing. The no-worries theme continues inside with a stock interior that shows some wear and use but it would probably be a crime to restore it. The original bench seat wears mismatched seat covers that show this truck has been maintained but not emasculated. The cream paint job was quite thorough, extending to the dash, floors, and door panels, and it remains in great shape. Original gauges look right in their asymmetrical panel that mirrors the glove box door, with a plastic center stack adding some interest. A Ford heater/defroster unit is the lone option in this working-class hauler, but you won''t feel slighted when you''re working the gears of the 3-speed transmission and listening to the wonderful sounds of the warmed-over flathead under the hood. A fresh rubber mat makes interior clean-ups easy, and the commanding view from behind the big steering wheel is hard to get anywhere else. Simple, reliable, and rugged all add up to a worry-free driving experience. And for driving, few engines are better at delivering entertaining performance than the venerable Ford flathead. The V8 in this truck is believed to be the original piece, a 239 cubic inch unit rated at an even 100 horsepower in 1949. All the original equipment is intact, from the oil bath air cleaner to the top-mounted generator, and the same "keep it simple" philosophy from 1950 was obviously part of the ownership experience. It''s not pretty or shiny, but the basics are good and lots of routine maintenance items ensure reliability. The chassis is highly original, with factory brakes, suspension, and a great-sounding dual exhaust system, and it rides on painted steel wheels with simple Ford hubcaps and a set of 6.70-15 wide whitewall tires. Perfect for cruising or ready for an amazing custom build, this is a sturdy, honest hobby vehicle that offers awesome flathead fun and a pretty big dose of practicality. Call today!
