Description:

Save your E-mails, we know Chevy wasn''t offering a small-block-powered SS in 1970, but this gorgeous Cranberry Red hardtop looks so good and runs so well, we don''t think a few badges will stop you from falling in love. It is a correct V8 Chevelle with what we believe to be the matching-numbers engine, so who can blame a guy for loving the SS look? Giving a Chevelle an SS makeover isn''t a new fad, but when you have one of the most attractive, popular, and downright nasty cars of the period, people tend to respect it. So when the time came for a restoration, they decided to go all-out and give this car a show-quality respray that would emulate one of Chevy''s most potent machines. Finished in 2006, the ultra-straight bodywork is a tribute to the long hours it takes to achieve this kind of quality, and the glossy paint only serves to emphasize how nicely finished it really is. Black SS stripes on a cowl induction hood are a big part of the appeal of the SS model, so they were, of course, included, as well as the blacked-out SS grille and SS396 badges, which only help cement the illusion. Nice chrome bumpers, polished stainless fender trim, and proper emblems all add up to a car that looks right, authentic or not. The splendidly restored interior is dressed the way a high-performance Chevelle should be. New seat covers look crisply detailed and feel supportive when you slide inside, and a center console with horseshoe shifter is pretty much mandatory in any car with sporting intentions. The three-spoke steering wheel frames a non-SS instrument panel, perhaps the biggest giveaway that this car isn''t legit, but on the other hand, the gauges are in good condition and the list of features includes a tilt wheel and factory A/C that was just serviced. A custom AM/FM/cassette stereo slides into the dash like the stocker would have, so no cutting was required and components like the door panels, dash pad, and carpets are in excellent condition. The trunk was also treated to a correct makeover, and includes a reproduction mat and a spare tire with matching cover. The 350 cubic inch V8 under the hood is likely the car''s original powerplant. When it was rebuilt a few years ago, the block was decked so the numbers were wiped out, but the date codes line up properly and it is a sweet-running engine. Detailed to look quite stock, from the cowl-induction air cleaner to the Chevy Orange paint on the block, it packs enough punch to be a formidable performer in its own right. Backed by a slick-shifting TH350 3-speed automatic transmission and a 12-bolt rear end with 2.73 gears inside, it''s an easy cruiser that makes cross-country drives feel effortless. A new dual exhaust system sounds right without being too aggressive, and it really is a clean car underneath. Factory-style SS wheels look awesome and carry 225/70/14 BFGoodrich T/A radials that looks almost new. Documented with an original build sheet, this is a really nice car that gets the look exactly right. With plenty of performance on tap, you probably won''t miss the extra cubes and it helps make this a very affordable way to get the Chevelle you''ve always dreamed of. Call today!
