But, if you’re an astute enthusiast who doesn’t want to squander the kid’s college fund, RK Motors Charlotte has you covered. This impressive roadster is a professionally built cruiser that mixes the best attributes of a ‘rope and red carpet’ showpiece with the streetability of a well-tuned muscle car. Beneath its crowd gathering profile, you’ll find a reliable Ram Jet V8, a stalwart 4-speed transmission and a whole lot of other top notch hardware that perfectly complements rugged Dearborn steel. If you’re looking for a fully-sorted street rod that mixes classic good looks with modern road manners, you’ve found your next car!
When you set your sights on creating a top-notch custom, you have to start with a solid foundation. That’s why the owner of this Ford began with a full set up from the folks at Dearborn Deuce LLC. As the only all-steel Ford body that’s engineered with power windows and an OEM-quality top from the ground up, the Dearborn Deuce is essentially a made-to-order car that’s ready to bolt to a chassis. The pros at Oakley Industries started with a 1x3-inch boxed rectangular steel structure that’s massaged into a vibration-free platform. That stunning shell’s smooth vertical panels and arrow-straight profile were block-sanded into Kansas-flat surfaces and covered in a striking coat of traditional Washington Blue. That sedate pigment was sealed in a through layer of clear and wet-sanded, buffed and polished to a head turning shine. And today, with only sunny summer miles on its fully-sorted build, this awesome roadster has the kind of unique style and eye-popping appeal that’ll drop jaws anywhere it goes!
Everything on this slick Ford is exceptionally well-done, and the car has just the right amount of detail to turn heads and create a lasting impression. At the front of its body, Washington Blue frame horns center a polished spreader bar beneath a small “Ford” emblem, spotless stainless grille and chrome Twolite headlights. At the top of that grille, a louvered hood flows to a smoked windshield that’s accented by a polished frame and small rearview mirror. At the top of that windshield, a high quality top wraps tan Haartz cloth around a glass backlite. At the sides of that cloth, a characteristically clean and simple profile presents shaved doors, hidden hinges and uninterrupted form. And at the back of that profile, a chrome fuel filler rides above a chrome tag bracket, custom ’37 Chevy tail lights and a second polished spreader bar. It’s hard to miss a classic Ford roadster. And this car has an identity all its own thanks to a cohesive theme, careful workmanship and exceptional attention to detail.
For the benefit of both reliability and performance, traditional street rods often feature souped-up versions of proven powertrains. And the 350 cubic inch Ram Jet V8 under this Ford’s hood spins 350 horsepower into a solid 400 lb./ft. of torque. At the top of the big mill, an aluminum ram jet intake makes good use of a reusable filter element and Lokar throttle cable. Beneath that intake, a nodular iron crank combines with hypereutectic pistons and powdercoated connecting rods to create stout 9.4 to 1 compression. Between those internals, a hydraulic roller cam works great with LT1 injectors and a full set of Chevrolet Performance roller rockers. The engine’s storied Vortec heads hang painted, Corvette-style valve covers over attractive Sanderson headers. At the back of those headers, a traditional points distributor shoots spark through high performance Taylor plug wires. In front of those wires, a Billet Specialties Tru Trac system spins a polished AC compressor opposite a polished Powermaster alternator. In front of those ancillaries, a beefy Walker radiator barely breaks a sweat thanks to a Cooling Concepts puller fan. And aesthetically, the car’s body-matched engine bay presents exceptionally well.
Under this roadster’s well-planned and professionally executed powerplant you’ll find a whole catalogue of custom performance parts that mix excellent driving dynamics with great visual effect. For starters, a ’32 Lobeck chassis cradles a fresh Performance Automatic Racing 700R4 that’s fitted with a Corvette servo, Alto Red clutches and a bevy of first rate componentry. At the front of that gearbox, a drilled Super Bell axle stretches a chromed Posies spring between polished Super Bell brakes and Unisteer rack and pinion steering. At the back of that gearbox, a dressed 4-link hangs an aluminum-cased Currie 9-inch between chromed coil-overs, big Wilwood discs and a Lokar parking brake. The engine’s killer soundtrack is provided by polished, large-diameter tail pipes. Torque splits the asphalt thanks to 16-inch Billet Specialties Legacies, which spin 195/60 front and 285/60 rear BF Goodrich Radial T/As around knock-off-style center caps. And high quality detailing, like stainless fluid lines, a finned transmission cooler and a big stainless fuel tank, marries top notch form with excellent function.
Inside this awesome custom ‘simple’ is the name of the game as a spectacular Tan interior creates a fun and stylish contrast to the car’s silky blue body. At the center of that body, a distressed Wise Guys seat is firm, provides good support and features a cool flip down armrest. In front of that seat, a sturdy steel dash hangs Classic Instruments gauges between Vintage Air climate control, Kwik Wire electricals and a hidden Custom Autosound head unit. At the sides of that dash, custom, soft-touch panels ride between Dearborn power windows and polished Dearborn sills. Below those panels, high quality carpet anchors classy Lokar foot pedals. In front of the driver, a polished, banjo-style steering wheel spins a leather rim around a tilting, Flaming River column. And behind the passengers, a completely upholstered trunk features enough storage for chairs, a small cooler and the car’s nightly trophy take.
The sale of this rad roadster includes build photos, component manuals, a Ram Jet Service Manual and a CodeMate EFI code reader.
In short, this spectacular Ford is the perfect street rod for someone who wants a fully-sorted cruiser that can tear up the road and take home trophies. The work is done, the money is spent, and the result is a great looking, headache-free car that can be driven home today. If you’re looking for a professional custom that features an unbeatable combination of modern technology and old school swagger, you’ve found your next classic!
