Description:

Are you one of those guys who likes being a little different than everyone else? Someone who appreciates authenticity and honesty? Then perhaps this 1964 Chevrolet Impala hardtop deserves a closer look. Restored to stock specs, it''s not another SS clone but rather a clean and somewhat unusual classic Chevy with just the right appeal to a guy who is sick of Roman Red. We don''t know who did the restoration or how long ago he did it, but the results are still pretty darned impressive. The light blue-green paint looks pretty darned close to the factory''s Azure Aqua and will truly stand out among all the red, white, and black Impalas that you see at every show. Underneath that striking paint, you''ll find some very straight sheetmetal that only serves to emphasize the clean, chiseled lines of the freshened ''64 Imp. These cars were particularly attractive in profile, where the new hardtop styling sought to echo that of the convertible, even adding a slight crease at the rear of the roof to simulate a convertible top bow and it''s a marked contrast to the "bubbletop" cars of a few years before. There are still those lovely Impala emblems on the quarter panels and the standard trim that wraps around the side cove to make this car look notably different than the SS. Of course, there are still three taillights per side, an Impala trademark, and the classic ''64 Impala grille is one of the best-looking of the decade. Add in a pair of antennas on the rear deck, brilliant chrome bumpers, and some clear, bright emblems and you have a car that really stands out. The beautiful blue interior offers a variety of textures and materials that should be busy but instead look fantastic. Patterned seating surfaces work with button-tufted door panels to add even more interest everywhere you look. The carpets look a little older than everything else inside this lovely Impala, but certainly nothing worth worrying about. Instrumentation covers the basics, so auxiliary under-dash gauges were added at some point, along with a vintage-looking A/C unit that blows ice cold. The top-of-the-line Impala received a pretty two-tone steering wheel and slender shifter for the 2-speed PowerGlide underneath, so it has a distinctly ''60s vibe. There''s a block-off plate for the original radio so the dash looks clean, and an AM/FM/CD stereo was added under the dash to avoid cutting things up, which is always smart. The trunk is nicely finished with an authentic mat set and a full-sized spare up on its shelf. A 283 cubic inch V8 provides reliable, smooth power for the easy-cruising Impala and delivers enough punch to make it fun to drive even in traffic. The engine bay is accurately finished with Chevy Orange paint on the block, including the embossed valve covers, and a factory air cleaner assembly helps with the look. Several obvious upgrades make this a great cruiser, including a dual-reservoir master cylinder and R134a refrigerant in the modern A/C system. The 2-speed PowerGlide automatic transmission is linked to the original rear end, so it''s a pleasant highway car and a dual exhaust system rumbles happily from behind. Factory Rally wheels look great here and carry 205/75/15 whitewall radials that are suitably sized for the big Impala. 1964 Impalas are popular for a lot of reasons, but we think you''ll find this one is popular simply because it''s not like all the others.
