Jeeps are hot. Panel trucks are hot. Rat rods are hot. So how about a cool 1955 Willys that combines all three? It ain''t pretty, but with modern running gear, a nicely appointed interior, and that suede paint, it sure has a look that will make a statement. It''s also affordable and practical, making it a great choice for the guy who has stuff to move and doesn''t want an expensive new truck. The shape is instantly familiar and the details will make you smile. If there''s a more uniquely American piece of hardware than the Jeep, I don''t know what it would be. The panel delivery body style is rather rare today, since most were pressed into service when they were new and simply used up. This one found a new lease on life and got a mild makeover, making it a cool driver that could be enjoyed without a second thought. That means low-maintenance satin black paint over straight bodywork that needs no excuses, and the result is funky and unusual in an industrial kind of way. And this wasn''t just some tired truck with a quickie paint job, either. Check out the frenched ''39 Ford taillights and the neatly mounted third brake light up high, the very straight bodywork, and that heavy-duty front bumper with tow hooks. There''s definitely time invested in this truck. It''s pretty far from stock inside, combining the Willys'' basic goodness with a few late-model parts to make it a nice place to hang out. Cloth buckets are a big improvement over the original vinyl stools that were there, and when combined with a custom center console, and a GM tilt steering column, it feels almost modern. There''s a touch of the whimsical in this truck, as there should be, so the Bigfoot accelerator pedal and white-faced gauges liven things up. Accessories include an AM/FM/CD stereo system, and air conditioning that uses cool eyeball vents in the dash (the system needs to be serviced but all the parts are there). There''s also a matching rear seat, which is a useful feature not found on many panel deliveries, and even with it in place there''s plenty of cargo space in back. A 350 cubic inch Chevy V8 is a massive upgrade over the original 4-cylinder Hercules powerplant. With a 4-barrel carburetor and dual exhaust, this little trucklet moves like a Camaro and feels agile running down the road. The bright red engine bay adds a touch of flash and reminds you that someone was thinking about this build and it wasn''t just thrown together in haste. A late-model serpentine belt drive, a front clip with independent suspension and power disc brakes, and a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission mean that it runs and drives like any other truck on the road. A 10-bolt rear end hangs on what appear to be the original leaf springs, so no worries about carrying capacity, and the brand new bright red steel wheels with poverty hubcaps give it a retro look. Staggered 195/70/14 front and 205/75/14 rear tires put a bit of rake on it. Just imagine this neat little trucklet with your shop''s logo on the sides, cruising the aisles at the next cruise night. The look totally works and the V8 really rumbles, making it a lot of fun. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom.
