When Toyota needed some kind of mid-sized 4x4, they looked to the past and created the FJ Cruiser. Ostensibly a modern version of the timeless FJ of yore, it''s a fairly faithful update of the original design with all the modern conveniences, all wrapped in a cool retro body. With just 50,443 original miles, this black 2008 FJ Cruiser looks enough like a brand new one to fool most of the folks around you. Just the right size for urban commuting and fun on weekends, the truck offers retro-looking styling, from the close-mounted headlights to the white top to the rugged-looking roof rack that''ll carry your safari gear. Fortunately, it looks like this one has spent its entire life on pavement, just like most 4x4s sold today, so the bodywork hasn''t been scratched and abused out in the brush. The black paint is deep and glossy, and with typical Toyota quality, it fits together extremely well. This was obviously someone''s cherished toy, not just a transportation appliance, which is why it''s in our showroom and not some used car lot somewhere; most of them just aren''t this nice. There''s a brush guard up front to enhance its off-roading look and with heavy-duty lighting, running boards, and a custom tire cover on the back, your new FJ will stand out from the crowd no matter where you go. The interior is a far cry from the basic FJ of the past, with supportive bucket seats, every comfort and convenience feature you could imagine, and a vastly more user-friendly atmosphere. The seats, like the exterior, have been beautifully preserved by a very caring owner, and the door panels and carpets look almost like new. The gauges are purely designed to look cool, and succeed brilliantly in that regard. There''s a fat steering wheel with stereo and cruise control buttons and a gated shifter that makes hitting the right gear easy without taking your eyes off the road. A/C is effective and powerful, the stereo sounds amazing, and the gauges atop the instrument panel are useful tools for off-roading, a task to which this FJ is still well-suited. The cargo area features a heavy-duty rubber mat that''s impregnable by liquids and mud, so don''t be afraid to take your gear off and stow it here before climbing into the otherwise pristine interior. Burly six-cylinder engines have always been the heart of the FJ, and these new models are no exception. With a 4.0-liter V6 offering dual overhead cams and variable valve timing, this one is far more civilized and definitely more economical than the original. Smooth and torquey, it moves the big FJ with ease, yet is content to idle in low gear through the slop without getting cranky or hot under the collar, even with the A/C blasting. The engine bay shows off an owner who kept every little detail tidy, and all the factory markings, decals, and finishes are still here and in great condition. The underside shows some routine signs of use, but no damage or signs of abuse, and as you can see, it''s still ideally suited to playing in the dirt, with skid plates and mechanicals tucked up high where they''re protected. Disc brakes are at all four corners and live behind handsome 17-inch alloys with 265/70/17 Michelin radials. A fraction of the price of a new one, this very nicely preserved and tastefully upgraded FJ Cruiser remains ready to play at a very reasonable cost. Call today!
