Straight from the high-banked ovals of NASCAR, this 1968 Ford Torino GT was the fastback aero champ of the late-60s, at least until the arrival of the Mopar winged wonders. With 390 cubic inches, an awesome color combination, and a very family-friendly interior, this should be your next muscle car. The fastback body style scales up from the Mustang pretty well, don''t you think? Big, bold, and looking seriously fast, this code T Candyapple Red Torino GT is all about street presence. The paint job was done a few years ago and certainly suits the fastback shape. There are a few flaws, of course, but none of them detract from the vintage NASCAR look that simply screams performance. White stripes highlight the wonderfully aggressive quarter panels without being excessive, and it wears GT badges with pride. Of course, the Torino was close to the top-of-the-line, so there''s still enough chrome to make sure it gets the point across, and it appears that the bumpers are new and the rest of the trim has been freshened for a very clean look. Perhaps more importantly, the glass remains in good original condition, particularly the giant rear window, which is surely borderline impossible to replace. Red buckets flanking a slick center console make this car feel as sporty inside as it looks outside. The upholstery is in excellent condition, and even the driver''s seat shows a minimum of wear. Correct carpets are protected by some generic mats and it''s possible that the door panels are original, albeit in excellent condition. The dash has a racy look with four round pods for the gauges, but the Torino''s upscale mission is reflected in the steering wheel, which has a woodgrained insert and a cool horn ring. Factory A/C is a nice option, and the original AM radio is in the dash, supplemented by an AM/FM/8-track unit that was probably installed not too long after the car was built. The trunk opening is rather narrow, but once you''re in there, trunk space is impressive under that fastback roof line and includes a full-sized spare and jack assembly. With 390 cubic inches pushing it around, this Torino has the moves to match its looks. The engine has been recently freshened with bright Ford Blue paint, chrome valve covers and air cleaner, and logs of upgrades. For show, there''s a new fan shroud and chrome details on the new dual reservoir master cylinder and shock tower brackets and a correct 390 decal was affixed to the air cleaner. It idles smoothly and pulls with mountainous torque, and if you want a big block you can drive every day, this is probably it. Twin Flowmasters give it a deep, performance voice and the Cruise-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission is durable enough to handle all that torque. The chassis isn''t detailed, but there are traces of red underspray on the floors, so you know it doesn''t have anything to hide and the door tag says there are 3.00 gears in the 9-inch rear, so it''s an easy cruiser. Factory styled steel wheels with 225/70/14 tires give it the right low, sleek look. Documented with a factory build sheet, original bill of sale, and owner''s manual, this is an unusual Ford performance machine with a great pedigree. Call today!
