The Mustang remains one of the most popular cars of all time, but that also means that finding one that hasn''t been modified or customized is getting harder every day. So imagine our surprise when this beautifully restored Sauterne Gold coupe showed up looking quite stock and still sporting a 200 cubic inch inline-six. It''s not a rare car, but it''s definitely rare to see a car like this restored to this level, and that makes it something special. Sauterne Gold is indeed this car''s original color, although if you do some archaeological digging, you''ll see that it was bright red at some point. We''re glad that the owner decided to restore it to its factory specs because this gold pony will stand out among all its more brightly colored siblings. This particular Mustang is not about flashy performance, but rather fun, economical transportation with a big dose of style to go with it. The finish is way off the charts for a car at this price level, showing excellent prep, good gaps, and a nicely polished finish that wouldn''t look out of place on a car costing five times as much. No stripes, no add-ons, no fake badges, just a clean, honest Mustang coupe that''s pretty much the way most folks ordered them back in the day. It has a ''60s sensibility that you''ll find quite appealing, and with all the bright chrome accents, it looks like a much more expensive car. Fresh chrome on the bumpers, brightly polished trim, and clear red taillights simply sparkle against the lovely paint. The Parchment and Rosette vinyl interior is also how this car was originally delivered, and the handsome combination is ideal for the gold bodywork. The seat covers are correct reproductions of the base buckets (thank you for not putting a Pony interior in this one!) and the contrasting carpets are in excellent condition. There are also new door panels, a restored steering wheel, and original gauges (all 1966 Mustangs got the ''65 GT gauge cluster), all of which give it a pleasing and inviting look inside. There''s an accessory under-dash A/C unit which uses modern mechanicals under the hood to make it reliable and powerful and a modern AM/FM/CD stereo with remote is the only upgrade that doesn''t look exactly period-perfect. With room for a few overnight bags, the trunk is neatly finished with a reproduction mat and spare tire with matching cover. The 200 cubic inch inline-six shouldn''t be dismissed, because it''s a peppy, torquey, and smooth powerplant that works quite well in the lightweight Mustang coupe. Never intended to be a racer, this engine is more comfortable cruising around town where the C4 3-speed automatic transmission seems to always be in the right gear. The Ford Blue engine looks quite authentic with reproduction decals, and the modern A/C system is so cleverly hidden that it may take you a few moments to find it. The power brakes have also been upgraded to a dual master cylinder, but with the lightweight six, power steering is completely unnecessary. It''s extremely clean underneath with lots of new parts, including a fresh single exhaust system with a proper transverse muffler. Stock steel wheels with standard hubcaps complete the Mustang look and carry 205/75/14 Michelin whitewall radials for just the right look. If you care about quality more than just raw power, this Mustang coupe deserves careful consideration. Even with six cylinders, they don''t come much nicer than this. Call today!
