With the 50th anniversary of the Mustang upon us, cars like this super tidy 1965 Mustang coupe are seeing a lot of new cultural awareness. So if you''re a first-timer looking for a clean old pony to enjoy or a seasoned collector, this very nicely restored coupe has a lot to offer. Code R, Ivy Green Metallic, is this car''s original color and it''s a fantastic choice on a coupe. Luxurious and a little bit sporty, it matches this Mustang''s personality perfectly. It retains that classic Mustang look that really embodies what most of the cars actually looked like. No stripes, no scoops, and not dressed up like GTs, but rather clean, conservative, and eminently stylish in any situation. The bodywork is extremely well done, with NOS front fenders and hood, so everything fits just the way the factory intended. And quite probably, better. Two-stage urethane paint probably makes it deeper and shinier than it ever was back in the ''60s, but who can complain when the results look this good? Just a quick glance down the flanks will reveal that the block-sanding was successful in eradicating any waves or ripples, and with a final polish on the paint, it just sparkles in the sun. Bright chrome bumpers are reproduction pieces that fit well and yes, those are ''289'' badges on the front fenders, but we''ll get to that in a moment. Some color combinations just work better than others, and if you want an elegant Mustang, it''ll be hard to top the two-tone green and white Pony interior this one carries. Everything is new, including the seat covers, carpets, door panels, and headliner, and the combination is absolutely gorgeous. A center console and wood-rimmed steering wheel are desirable upgrades that only help with the upscale vibe, and the woodgrained accents are remarkably consistent throughout the interior. Nice-looking gauges monitor all the engine''s vitals and there''s an AM/FM/cassette stereo that fits neatly in the original dash slot and blends right in. The upholstery looks almost new, with no wear on the carpets thanks to matching Mustang-logo floor mats, and even the seat belts have been nicely restored in the original green color. New mats, including a cover for the full-sized spare tire, were fitted in the trunk, completing a very professional presentation. As I mentioned, this is a real C-code 289 Mustang, and the bright Ford Blue engine has been bored .030 oversize, rebuilt, and detailed before its reinstallation. A correct air cleaner with ''289'' decals dominates the engine bay, but other details are just as correct, from the satin black inner fenders to the export brace bolted to the firewall. There''s an upgraded 4-core radiator up front that keeps it cool effortlessly, and stock exhaust manifolds feeding a reproduction single exhaust system that sounds just right. A C4 3-speed automatic transmission was also original specification and turns a set of 2.80 gears, so this really is a superlative highway car. A big 1-inch sway bar with new urethane bushings was just installed and makes a very noticeable improvement to the agile little coupe''s road manners. It''s quite clean underneath thanks to spending almost all its life down south, and correct 14-inch wheels with hubcaps are fitted with appropriate 195/75/14 whitewall radials for a classic ''60s look. If you''ve been sitting on the sidelines during all the Mustang celebrations, it''s time to get into the game. This car is clean, fun, and affordable, and with great support from the clubs and the aftermarket, it remains on every collector''s wish list. Call today!
