The age of the pickup truck is upon us, and there''s a huge variety of really nice haulers available for not a lot of cash. If you''re a Ford guy who likes his vehicles powered by true Blue Oval, then this 1950 Ford F-1 pickup is for you. It looks great, has a sweet-running 302, and the interior is a far cry from the utilitarian environment it had when it was new. Medium blue paint (dare we say Ford Blue) looks great on this tidy post-war pickup. It''s not too flashy, with just a touch of metallic, and looks appropriate on the curvy sheetmetal. Nothing has been radically modified or shaved on this truck, but they did invest plenty of time in the bodywork, which is very good from any angle. The paint is modern urethane, so it''ll last practically forever, and if you''re the kind of guy who likes trophies, this one is only a cut and buff away from a big wow factor. Some fresh chrome brightens the working class look, particularly up front where the simple grille, close-set headlights, and distinctive hood vents all look bright and shiny. They''ve also added accessory bumpers at both ends, Ford-script step plates on the running boards for a vintage look, and twin taillights out back (only one was standard equipment). The bed is striking, with dark stain on the oak and a brilliant shine, and it''s easily removable if you actually want to use this truck for hauling your gear, too. Forget slippery bench seats that feel like church pews, this great-looking Ford now carries modern black leather buckets borrowed from a late-model Chrysler. Matching black carpets on the floors help with sound and heat control, while neat two-tone door panels embrace the 1950s look. Note the switch to power windows, an under-dash A/C system, and a dash full of beautiful white-faced dials from Omega Kustom Instruments. That custom dash panel emulates the original, giving it a modern twist and room for auxiliary gauges that are easy to read. A late-model GM tilt column makes the driving position feel quite modern and the gray leather steering wheel feels great in your hands. A light tint on the windows helps keep things comfortable when you''re in the sun and a custom center console offers an armrest and a pair of handy cup holders for road trips, which are a sure thing with this truck. As we mentioned, there''s a 302 cubic inch V8 up front, and with the usual upgrades it''s a wonderful runner. Flatheads are nice, but if you want to run at modern highway speeds, a 4-barrel carburetor and other goodies make it seem easy. It''s wearing Ford Blue paint on the block and some polished aluminum valve covers, but the focus was on function as much as beauty and that''s where this truck really shines. Turn the key and it fires with a Mustang-like burble from the dual exhaust and the C4 3-speed automatic makes cruising a pleasure. The front suspension features custom tubular A-arms and rack-and-pinion steering, so it feels quite modern, and it comes with two sets of front coils so you can set the ride height to your liking. Color-matched steelies with dog dish hubcaps are the right choice on a vintage pickup, and they carry 235/60/15 Dayton radials all around. With all the right pieces, this Ford-with-a-Ford pickup is the kind of vehicle you''ll look forward to driving everywhere, even if you don''t have anything to haul. Call today!
