Description:

The Fox Mustangs are 35 years old now. I''m going to let that sink in while you look at how modern this 1992 Mustang GT 5.0 hatchback looks. Awesome two-tone paint gives it a sleek custom look, while a freshly rebuilt 5.0 provides plenty of old-school V8 motivation. Ultra clean throughout, this is a fast, affordable, fun pony that hasn''t been beaten or abused. Are you wondering yet whether or not this is a GT or an LX? Then the builder of this car did their job. The car was born as a GT, but during the resto, they decided to rework the car with the LX body instead as it saves weight and is therefore preferred by many in the performance community. Either way, the clean lines made the LX somewhat of a sleeper in the early ''90s, but everyone knew to look for the 5.0 badges and the twin polished tailpipes out back. Today, with a cowl-induction hood and a slick green over silver paint job, this one is a bit less subtle, but the clean, unadorned lines of the LX look as good as ever. The paint job is quite nicely done, with crisp masking lines and a pinstripe right at the junction between the colors, which also highlights a crease in the bodywork that''s otherwise invisible on a solid-colored car. There''s no indications that this car has been raced, wrecked, or otherwise mistreated, with doors that close easily and great panel alignment throughout. Clear marker lights up front certainly help with the updated, slick look and following the paint job, the infamous ''5.0'' badges were reinstalled on the front fenders. Heck, there''s not even a wild-looking wing out back, suggesting that the guy who built this one had good taste as well as a desire for horsepower. The gray interior is almost all-new, offering sport bucket seats covered in fresh gray cloth upholstery. The door panels, center console, and the rear seat are all quite nice, and there''s a sunroof overhead for nice days. Ford''s fat leather-wrapped steering wheel feels great in your hands, and the relatively upright greenhouse makes the Mustang very user-friendly in traffic, where it''s the ultimate point-and-shoot machine. The original gauges are joined by a monster tach up high on the dash, and the shift knob is a unique piece that looks like a bullet casing, complete with ''44MAG'' markings. The original radio is long gone, replaced by a newer AM/FM/CD head unit, right below the controls for the ventilation system. Other options include power windows and locks, cruise control, rear defroster, and power mirrors, making this a fairly loaded car for the time. With rear seats that fold down, cargo capacity is impressive and the trunk area shows very little wear despite being more than 20 years old. The venerable 5.0-liter V8 under the hood was rebuilt in December of 2013 and has less than 1000 miles on it, so it''s fresh and ready to rock. Internal goodies include fresh aluminum pistons, a Lunati 589 camshaft, and roller rockers, so it has a wonderfully punchy demeanor. The engine''s cosmetics were addressed with a satin black intake and valve covers, giving it a familiar look that''s a little more old-school. Other performance-enhancements include an open-element air filter that may free up some horsepower and a set of gorgeous long-tube headers dumping into a Flowmaster dual exhaust system that sounds, well, like a Mustang 5.0 should sound. The 5-speed manual shifts beautifully and powers the original 8.8-inch rear end. Gorgeous 17-inch Cobra R-style wheels look great on the Fox body and carry 245/45/17 front and 275/40/17 rear performance radials. Still fast and still fun after all these years, this is the kind of 5.0 Mustang that you''ve always wanted to own. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom.
