If you’re in the market for something fun that’s guaranteed to hold its appeal for a very long time, it’s hard to go wrong with a vintage Corvette. America’s favorite sports car is finally commanding the respect it deserves. And with awesome classics like this clean ’66 roadster mixing highly correct restorations with red carpet street appeal, it’s not hard to see why. A perfect blend of vintage virtues and everyday drivability, this handsome C2 is a head-turning exercise in old school charm and motor city swagger. If you’re looking for that rare trifecta of ‘low maintenance’, ‘fun to own’ and ‘great investment potential’, this ‘66 Chevy is your best bet! Logging only sunny summer miles on its complete, ground up reboot, this mean Corvette drop-top is a decidedly clean cruiser. During its in depth restoration, the car’s solid, fiberglass body was thoroughly massaged to correct most of the typical waves and ripples that came standard from GM’s St. Louis manufacturing facility. With those cosmetic semantics complete, a finishing phase took the form of aggressive block sanding. And finally, everything was layered in a smooth Tuxedo Black basecoat, sealed in glossy clear and buffed to a fantastic, wet-look shine. With this Sting Ray, the idea was to create a super nice classic that can be driven without worry. Whether that means an excellent original piece was refinished to like-new condition, or fresh reproduction items were installed, the car’s caretakers certainly ensured its appearance is both accurate and impressive. At the front of this old school street queen, bullet-style marker lights, show worthy bumpers, and a red, white and black cross-flag emblem cage a stainless egg crate grille. Behind that grille, a new-for-1966 “Corvette STING RAY” emblem adorns a ‘bubbled’, big-block-exclusive hood. At the sides of that hood, simple heat extractors ride between traditional door handles, ornate fender emblems, and chambered and shielded side pipes. Opposite those pipes, a chrome bowtie mirror and fresh stainless trim complement a pliable soft top and body-matched hardtop. And behind those tops, familiar Corvette tail lights illuminate a chrome-trimmed fuel filler and second “Corvette STING RAY” emblem above a chrome-trimmed tag bracket and two more show worthy bumpers. It’s hard not to notice something topless, especially if it’s a second generation Corvette. And this roadster’s 427 cubic inch Chevrolet V8 will ensure the car is both seen AND heard! At the top of the Chevy Orange mill, a big Holley carburetor rides between a chrome, correctly-decaled air cleaner and bright, stainless fluid lines. Below that carburetor, a familiar Winter intake funnels a perfect air/fuel mixture into tough, cast iron heads, which wear traditional steel valve covers. When the juice hits the cylinders, reliable, chrome-capped ignition sparks fresh, stainless-sleeved wires while a Crane cam and stock rotating assembly push spent gases through restored exhaust manifolds. Cooling for that fire is provided by a beefy aluminum radiator, which hangs in front of a big, belt-driven fan. And overall, this Chevy’s tidy engine compartment is exceptionally well-done; framing a modern alternator, fresh master cylinder and correct GM hoses in bright decals and clean, Satin Black fenders. Not surprisingly, the bottom of this pavement-pounding Vette is solid, clean and ready to roll. Behind the awesome big block, a tough Muncie 4-speed makes good use of a correct Sting Ray axle. Turns come courtesy of modern power steering. A full assortment of disc brakes provides solid, confident stops. Impressive, true-dual exhaust funnels spent gases through correctly chambered side pipes. The car’s solid, Satin Black floors perfectly complement a straight, Satin Black chassis. All that reliable hardware rolls on traditional turbine wheels, which spin 205/75R15 Coker Classic goldlines around traditional chrome knock-offs. And details like stainless fluid lines, fresh shocks and a familiar stainless fuel tank ensure years of carefree cruising. Open this C2’s tossable doors and you’ll find a bright Red interior that appears to have been completely replaced during the car’s extensive rebirth. Seating comes courtesy of firm leather thrones, which are anchored between fresh seatbelts, bright stainless trim and a small console that’s centered on a fully functional shifter. From the driver’s perch, a traditional clock and Delco AM/FM radio ride between rebuilt gauges and an aluminum-trimmed glove box. Below that dash, like-new carpet balances color-keyed floor mats between fresh chrome sills. Above those sills, stainless-trimmed door panels hang small armrests and traditional handles inside stylish black accents. In front of the driver, a satin-spoked steering wheel spins around a brilliant cross-flag emblem. And behind the passengers, a fully carpeted storage compartment boasts enough room for two suitcases and a bag of detailing supplies. The sale of this fully sorted roadster includes restoration photos, restoration receipts and a reproduction owner’s manual. If you’re looking for a unique classic that mixes unmatched style with instant fun, this Corvette is your kind of car. It’s cool from every angle.
