Everyone seems to have a red, black, or blue Chevelle, but if you like to stand out, perhaps something a little more subtle will work better. This nicely preserved 1967 Chevelle SS396 is one of those ultra-sanitary cars that has always been loved and with a repaint in its original Mountain Green, it''s a great way to get attention without being obvious about it. There''s a purity to the early Chevelles that the later cars don''t quite manage to capture. No stripes, no wings, no showy badges, just a big honkin'' engine in a mid-sized body. The ultra-clean shape is helped in this car''s case by the misty Mountain Green paint, which is an unusual color when it was new and even more so today. The paint job was done a few years ago but sticks to the original formula, and given that this car has always been well-maintained and treated as something special, the bodywork underneath is quite straight. It does have a few signs that the car has been driven, of course, and it''s not perfect, but if you like to cruise with a low profile, few cars can do it better. A contrasting black vinyl roof makes it look substantial and grown-up and remains in excellent condition with no tell-tale signs of issues underneath. The chrome and trim is likely original and in outstanding condition for its age, and if you like stealth, only the SS badges and crossed-flag emblems give this one away; no stripes or spoilers needed. Black buckets with a console-mounted 4-speed between them mean this car was ordered right. The upholstery is in excellent condition with handsome low-back buckets trimmed in black vinyl and door panels that match. The carpets are so nice I have to believe they''ve been replaced, and they''re not protected by embroidered floor mats that fit well. Obviously the steering wheel and column-mounted tachometer aren''t original, but they do add to the Chevelle''s combat-ready attitude and make for a very pleasant driving experience. An upgraded AM/FM/CD stereo has been fitted in the dash and yes, this is a factory A/C car, a very big plus for any vintage muscle car. The trunk is also in excellent shape, needing nothing more than a reproduction mat to look as good as new. Big performance comes from the original, numbers-matching L34 396 cubic inch V8 rated at a stout 350 horsepower. The recent recipient of a high-level detailing, the engine bay sparkles against the light green paint and is highlighted by lots of correct components. The chrome valve covers and air cleaner were standard equipment and atop the bright Chevy Orange engine they look awesome. There''s a Carter AFB living under the air cleaner today, but the original Quadrajet is included with the car and you can''t argue with how this one runs. Power steering and front disc brakes are always welcome in a car with a big block, and combined with the 4-speed it feels quick and agile out on the street. A new dual exhaust system highlights a very sanitary chassis which isn''t restored but is the kind of clean that you like to show off to your buddies. Out back, a rugged 12-bolt rear plants the torque and it rolls on what appear to be original Rally wheels with 215/65/15 front and 235/60/15 rear BFGoodrich T/A radials. A very tight, clean and unmolested car, this unusual Chevelle isn''t for everyone, but if you appreciate the art of subtlety, it''s pretty hard to beat. Call today!
