The Mustang is an American icon and was originally based on theFord Falcon compact. The first production Mustang rolled off theassembly line in Dearborn, Michigan on March 9, 1964 and wasintroduced to the public at the New York World''s Fair on April 17,1964. It was, and remains, one of the most successful productlaunches in automotive history. It sold over one million units inits first 18 months on the market and its legend lives on withrevised models still in production today after 43 years. Fordadded a Fastback to its 1965 Mustang line-up but the convertibleholds a special place in American culture and was heavilypublicised as ''a car to escape the mundane nature of life.'' The ''LeMans'' stripes, which run the length of the car, reflected theShelby racing team colours and were originally blue over white. Many different interpretations now exist and this example presentswith white stripes over a blue car. This is though, a standard example of a 289ci convertible Mustangwith automatic gearbox. The body is in good order; imported, as itwas, from Arizona, a state with a notoriously dry climate. Thevinyl hood appears to be original as is the correct eight-trackcassette player. The GT350 aspirations do not stop with thepaintwork however; it has been equipped with a stainless steelShelby exhaust from front to back including the quad tail pipes andShelby wheels and tyres. Complete with a full one year MoT testcertificate, this GT350 looks the part but remains mild mannered soyou can enjoy all the fun of open-top motoring.
