Description:

This tidy 1968 Camaro is one of those cars that will fool you until you get up close. It''s subtle, no doubt about that, but with a numbers-matching 327 under the hood, a 4-speed gearbox, and a few horsepower upgrades, it runs like it should be painted bright red. Code Y Butternut Yellow is this car''s original color, and it might work even better today than when it was new. Obviously this car doesn''t have anything to prove, so they kept it low-key, adding white stripes, a cowl-induction hood, and some Z/28 badges, just to keep everyone guessing. The body itself is in good condition and doesn''t show any of the usual maladies that affect lesser cars, and it appears that the quarter panels are likely original, more evidence that this is a good car. The light paint doesn''t hide anything, so the gaps had to be tight and they clearly spent a bit of extra time to line everything up. A cowl-induction hood was added, but with the light color, it stays in the background, which is exactly right for this particular F-body. There''s also good chrome, a nice grille, and a blacked-out tail panel that looks great against the light paint. Black upholstery is how it was outfitted at the factory, and today it wears reproduction seat covers and new door panels to freshen the interior. A few of the modifications include the thick leather-wrapped Grant steering wheel and auxiliary gauges down low in the original location but using modern white-faced dials, plus a nicely-installed AM/FM/CD stereo. You''ll be delighted to learn that this car has factory A/C and power steering, so it''s very user-friendly, and while it came from the factory with a 2-speed PowerGlide, a proper 4-speed manual has been installed and topped with a Hurst cue ball. A few woodgrained appliques give the interior some character and actually look more convincing than most. In back, you can pop the deck lid and have a look at a very clean trunk pan, which is always reassuring on an old car like this. The original, numbers-matching 327 cubic inch engine remains under that cowl-induction hood, albeit nicely modified for street and show duty. The most obvious change is that the block has been color-matched to the body, a neat trick that gives it a totally unique look. Dress-up items include the Z/28-style finned valve covers, a chrome air cleaner, and a few other shiny pieces, while performance has been enhanced with a 4-barrel carb and intake to replace the original 2-barrel. Long-tube headers give it a nasty small block cackle, particularly with twin Flowmasters out back, and like the other important areas of the car, the floors have nothing to hide. There''s also a 10-bolt rear end with auxiliary air shocks so you can adjust the ride for loads or handling, and power front disc brakes make it safe. Proper Rally wheels complete the look with fat 215/65/15 front and 255/60/15 rear Kumho white-letter radials. A handsome early Camaro that has all the important hardware already installed. Enjoy the notoriety that comes from being a little different, but it won''t take long before people learn that this little yellow F-body packs a serious punch. Call today!
