Just about any 1964 Chevy Impala convertible you run across is a desirable piece, but the one to own is a legitimate V8 convertible like this lovely Palomar Red ragtop with a burbling 283 under the hood. While fashion comes and goes, the timeless Impala will always be cool. As you know, we sell a lot of these cars, but the convertibles are much harder to come by. As a well-maintained, highly original car, the body is straight and clean and while we may take it for granted, cars like this just don''t come along all that often. Aside from the paint, which is a nicely done older repaint, it still presents quite well and can be driven proudly. Just look at the long strip of trim running from behind the front fender opening, which cleanly streaks along the bodywork uninterrupted. It''s a shame how many of these were modified over the years, when we think the factory nailed it just right. Get close up and you won''t be disappointed, because the chrome has been buffed and polished, the stainless is bright, and all the stock emblems are in place-no fake SS badges need apply. It even includes twin rear-mounted antennas and, of course, six taillights just like all the Impalas before it. The interior is restored to original specs, which means a comfortable bench seat wrapped in black vinyl. As Chevy''s top-of-the-line, the stitching gives it an upscale look and the sweep of bright trim along the outer edges makes it sparkle. Both the front and rear seats are supportive and comfortable, showing minimal wear and no damage, while things like the carpets, dash pad, and probably the door panels restored at the same time. The markings on the gauges are crisp, showing GM''s penchant for three-dimensional designs where the needles hid behind the markings on a clear plastic face for a very cool effect. A glance in the door jambs will prove how thorough the restoration work was, and the sole modification inside appears to be an AM/FM/cassette stereo head unit neatly parked in the stock location. The white power convertible top is in good condition and you''ll be pleased to note that it hides under a black vinyl boot when it''s down, giving the big Imp a very clean profile. There''s more clean sheetmetal living in the trunk, which is finished with a correct mat and a full-sized spare. The engine is a correct 283 cubic inch V8, fully rebuilt, detailed, and ready to rock. The engine bay is bright and nicely done, including proper Chevy Orange paint on the block, plain stamped steel valve covers, and the big black air cleaner up top. Simplicity guarantees reliability, and the orderly engine bay suggests that this car is ready to drive without worries, and they went the extra mile and used correctly marked hoses, tower hose clamps, and reproduction decals whenever possible. Underneath, there''s a rugged PowerGlide 2-speed automatic surrounded by tidy floors, a correct dual exhaust system, and niceties like power steering and brakes. Four 215/70/14 whitewall radials have been fitted to the original wheels, which wear the original hubcaps. Impalas are one of those cars that everyone thinks is cool, so when you show up in this handsome convertible, you may find that you suddenly have a lot of new friends. Call today!
