Description:

The best cars are those with an interesting story to tell, and what makes this 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 even more appealing is that it has big block power, factory A/C, and a fantastic color combination to with the interesting story. The original owner of this car was a school teacher in Texas, who figured it was time to trade in her new husband''s 1959 Galaxie that was all-too-familiar to the ladies around town. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart drove off the lot in this Galaxie after having specified a 390, air conditioning, and a set of accessory fender skirts that are still on the car today. They kept the car until the early 2000s when the school teacher''s husband passed away, and that owner kept it until just last year, when the current owner purchased it to attend his 50th high school reunion. The car was similar to the one he drove in high school, and in preparation, he treated it to a lot of restoration work, including fresh paint and body work and a freshened engine. Wearing code M Corinthian White paint, it looks quite good today and certainly emphasizes the unique blend of performance and sophistication that defined the Galaxie. The trim is in excellent condition, including the stainless rub strips that run the length of the body, and the jet-inspired taillights look as awesome as ever. It''s easy to see where the money was spent, because this car is in remarkable condition. It gets even better inside, where there''s a gorgeous red interior with fresh seat covers, carpets, and a restored steering wheel. They took a few liberties with the restoration, most notably the red-painted bezels on the instrument panel, but that''s an easy sin to forgive when everything else looks this good. The original AM radio remains in the dash, but there''s a new AM/FM/CD stereo head unit in its own housing hanging underneath that actually supplies the entertainment. And the A/C system that Mrs. Stewart requested back in 1963 remains in place and blowing ice cold thanks to an R134a refrigerant upgrade. Given the car''s history, there''s no reason to believe that the 83,063 miles showing on the odometer are not correct, and its unbroken chain of ownership certainly bears it out. The trunk is truly massive and includes a reproduction mat and a brand new spare tire with jack assembly. The engine is the original 390 cubic inch V8 rated at a nice, round 300 horsepower. Recently serviced and detailed, the engine bay isn''t 100% correct, but it is clean, neat, and very sharp-looking. A myriad of new parts, including a power brake booster, dual reservoir master cylinder, and front disc brakes were added to improve safety on the road, and the A/C system was obviously rebuilt and serviced. The 3-speed automatic transmission was also checked and reinstalled, and feeds 3.00 gears in the 9-inch rear end, so it''s a superlative highway cruiser. You''ll also note that it''s astoundingly clean underneath with a lot of new parts, including front and rear sway bars that give this big cruiser surprisingly sharp reflexes. There''s also a great-sounding dual exhaust system and a set of custom front wheels were made to clear the front disc brakes and still accommodate the original wire hubcaps. Four new 215/75/14 whitewall radials were also just installed. A very cool Galaxie with a ton of recent work and a fantastic story to tell. Call today!
