Description:

The Ford Galaxie was built to win on the track, and it''s one of the few full-sized luxury cars of any era that definitely looks fast just sitting still. This 1964 Galaxie is an impressive example that is almost completely standard, but has a very slick look thanks to custom rolling stock and some tasteful interior upgrades. The color is original code D Medium Turquoise Metallic or Dynasty Green depending on whose color chart you''re using, and it looks right on the big Galaxie. Repainted just a few years ago, it still looks brilliant, with a sophisticated look that works quite well on the top-of-the-line Galaxie. The color is pastel, but there''s a boldness to it, perhaps because of the contrast with the striking styling, and the whole car really works. This is no shrinking violet, and I think you''ll discover that it draws crowds at the local cruise-in better than any red Galaxie might. Fortunately, the bodywork was in excellent condition, so it''s straight and the details are sharp, emphasizing the long lines. There''s also plenty of chrome and trim on this big hardtop, and all of it remains in good condition, from the chrome bumpers to the stainless strip that runs the length of the car. Ford''s famous round taillights emphasize the jet-age-inspired design, and big block letters spelling out FORD on the deck lid remind the little guy what just passed them. Full-sized cars in the ''60s meant room for five adults, even in the two-door models. Bucket seats are a very desirable option, particularly with a console between them. The seats show a bit of use, of course, but the seat covers were replaced not too long ago and show no damage or deterioration, just a few comfort marks. Handsome white-faced instruments prove that isn''t a particularly new idea, and an AM/FM/CD stereo has been rather neatly installed in the stainless strip that bisects the middle of the dash. That console is a particularly slick piece of interior styling, a mixture of black and shiny silver brightwork with just the chrome shifter sticking out of the center like a piece of sculpture or something. A massive trunk can carry a month''s worth of luggage for the entire family, and as you can see, the floors are quite nice. The engine is a correct X-code 352 cubic inch V8, which offers torquey fun that moves the big coupe with effortless ease. It isn''t the car''s original engine, but it looks right wearing Ford blue on its valve covers and original air cleaner, plus a reproduction decal. It fires up easily with a great V8 soundtrack thanks to dual exhaust with straight pipes, and the way it hammers down the highway suggests that those Ford engineers learned a thing or two at the track each weekend. It''s backed by a 3-speed Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission feeding a 9-inch rear with 3.00 gears inside, so it cruises easily at highway speeds. Classic American Racing wheels add a sporty touch to any ''60s muscle, and the tires are 225/45/17 front and 255/50/17 rear performance radials that make it look fast. Fords are catching up to their GM counterparts in terms of value, and when you can enjoy this much style and performance at such a low price, there''s really no excuse not to pick up the phone and call today! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom. For more information, please call (704) 598-2130 or toll free (866) 542-8392.
