Description:

If you''re a fan of the unusual, then this 1973 Mustang Grande might appeal to you. It''s an 88,000-mile survivor that''s in spectacular original condition, and is loaded with options that make it quite the find for the Mustang enthusiast who thinks he''s seen it all. Wearing its original, factory-applied Wimbledon White paint, this Grande coupe actually looks a lot sportier than many of its hardtop siblings. Now, whether that''s a function of the black side stripes or the funky leather-grained top, I can''t say, but it sure looks slick. There''s every reason to believe that this car is a super clean survivor because the paint is nice, but not perfect and has the right soft shine to suggest that it''s 40 years old. Fit and finish are about what you''d expect for 1973 production line assembly techniques, and there''s no sign that it has ever been wrecked and patched back together. That urethane front bumper is in remarkable condition with no major cracks or flaking, and all the chrome and stainless trim remains shiny and seemingly impervious to the passage of time. And if you look closely at this luxury-oriented Grande, you''ll also note the dual exhaust with cutouts in the rear valence, sport mirrors, and a chin spoiler that''s part of the incongruous look that makes this one so cool. Inside, the Grande got the full lux treatment with Ginger buckets that are the perfect ''70s combination of vinyl and cloth. Faux burled walnut tries to take the Mustang upscale with varying levels of success, but there''s no denying that this one is just the way the factory built it. The seats themselves are just remarkably well preserved with no splits or tears and only the most minor signs of use. A center console, factory A/C, and a tilt wheel are nice features, and even the original AM/FM stereo radio remains in the dash. Talk about a time capsule! The original gauges still show crisp markings and clear lenses and as I mentioned earlier, the mileage is believed to be authentic. In the trunk, you''ll find the original mats protected by a carpet remnant, as well as the original hubcaps and what might be the original spare tire. This Grande also got the top engine, a 351 cubic inch V8 that was normally fed by a ram air system in the other models. Still running beautifully, it has been carefully maintained and looks like what you''d expect from a car that has lived its entire life someplace warm and dry. The original Ford Blue engine enamel still looks bright, , all the original equipment like the A/C compressor and alternator is still in place, and the wiring is in excellent condition. It''s backed by a FMX automatic transmission and a set of 2.75 gears out back, so cruising is this car''s forte. The list of new equipment includes the shocks, front brakes, and master cylinder, plus a great-sounding dual exhaust system. The original steel wheels are supplanted by a set of gorgeous Magnum 500s, which wear 225/60/15 BFG radials for a sportier look. Neatly bridging the gap between the luxury-oriented Grande and the Mach 1, this unique coupe shows you that with judicious use of the options list, unique Mustangs were still available in 1973.
