You don''t see 1967 Firebirds all that often, let alone those packing 455 cubic inch big blocks! This slick hardtop looks pretty stock at first glance, but with the biggest of the big living under the hood, it packs a mean punch that''ll make you grin like an escaped convict every time you drive it. The vivid electric blue paint precludes any idea that this might be a sleeper, but it sure looks awesome. I don''t think it was on the Pontiac color chart in 1967, and certainly no paint of the era could glow with the intensity of this two-stage urethane job, but it suits the compact F-body just fine. The bodywork is straight enough to get double-takes going down the street, and even stands up to closer scrutiny at local car shows where this car will probably keep a low profile (as long as the engine is off!). The chrome bumper that wraps around the nose is a Pontiac trademark that works quite well against the bright blue paint and there''s a matching chrome bumper out back. A ducktail spoiler gives it just a bit of attitude, and the brand new black vinyl top is expertly installed with no surprises hiding underneath. The light blue interior is a correct reproduction of the original setup, featuring replacement seat covers, door panels, and dark blue carpets. There''s nothing groundbreaking here, but when the original design looked as good as the Firebird did, well, there''s really no reason to try to upgrade the basics. The center console houses the clock in its own pod at the front of the unit, along with an auxiliary oil pressure gauge. The factory instruments only cover the basics, but they''re in good shape with clear markings and those cool cone-shaped lenses. A Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo has been stuffed into the center stack and fits well without looking too out of place. The trunk is solid and clean and carries a full-sized spare tire on a matching Rally II wheel. While the badges on the hood say 400, that''s actually a 455 cubic inch big block that defined Pontiac performance a few years after this Firebird was built. The effortless torque makes the lightweight Firebird a blast to drive, and it looks right under the hood. Pontiac Turquoise paint, lovely Edelbrock finned aluminum valve covers, and a reproduction decal that makes no secret of the engine swap all give it a great muscle car vibe. A Holley 700 Street Avenger Carb feeds the beast, and with that lump of cast iron up front, you''ll be glad for the power steering, too. The transmission is a bulletproof TH400 3-speed automatic with the original 10-bolt out back, so there are no worries about breakage, even with the big block. A new Flowmaster exhaust system, fresh brakes all around, and a replacement set of shocks mean that it''s ready to cruise right away with no further investment. Classic Pontiac Rallye II wheels always look right on early Firebirds, with these wearing staggered 215/65/15 front and 225/70/15 rear BFGoodrich T/A radials. Just a clean, straight, and surprisingly quick early Firebird that will make you smile every time you drive it. I wouldn''t exactly call it a sleeper, but it''s just as much fun. Call today!
