Description:

Let''s forget about investments and the overblown hype around matching numbers for a moment and travel back in time. If you could go to 1969 and order your brand new Camaro from the factory, isn''t this Hugger Orange RS/SS 396 tribute pretty much how you''d do it? Actually, this one''s better than new because GM wouldn''t build you an L78 with A/C and power steering. No car has ever worn orange paint better than the ''69 Camaro. This one started out as code 71 Lemans Blue, the only color more popular in 1969 than Hugger Orange. During the restoration in the late-90s, it was thoroughly revamped and every square inch was covered in the brilliant orange finish so there''s no trace of blue anywhere on the car. The work was quite well done, but as you''d imagine, it''s hard to stay out of the driver''s seat of this particular F-body, so it does show some signs of use, but the overall condition is a testament to the quality of the work. White SS stripes are, of course, included along with the requisite ducktail spoiler, cowl-induction hood, and chin spoiler. And since we''re building our dream car here, it also features the RS package with its hidden headlights and special taillights, plus shiny stuff like the quarter panel "gill" inserts, bright fender moldings, and rear bumper guards. As far a dream cars go, this one hits a lot of high notes. As long as you''re checking option boxes on the order form, go ahead and sign up for the black and white houndstooth interior, too, because absolutely nothing looks better in an early Camaro. In fact, the entire interior looks quite fresh with very, very few signs of use and seats that are still firm and comfortable with none of the usual wear in the usual spots. Black carpets, matching door panels, and even the headliner sure look great. A center console with optional auxiliary gauges was surely on your dream car''s order sheet, so they''re here too, along with a Hurst shifter on the 4-speed. A tach, factory A/C, and a tilt column were installed as well. 1969 was a little too early for AM/FM/cassette stereo head units, but there''s one here and I don''t think anyone will complain about that particular improvement. And in back, the trunk is neatly finished with a new mat. The 396-inch big block was rebuilt to L78 specs, which means a cackling solid lifter camshaft and enough compression to make the exhaust snort and snarl. Sure, the experts will start telling us A/C and power steering weren''t available on the high-revving solid lifter cars, but this is our dream car and anything goes. It''s certainly well detailed, with Chevy Orange paint, chrome valve covers, and a proper decal on the air cleaner. An Edelbrock intake, Demon 750 CFM carb, and a custom exhaust system with Flowmasters and turn-downs ahead of the rear axle add a bit more power, as if the L78 needed it. The undercarriage is clean and just about right for care-free cruising, with a 10-bolt axle bringing up the rear. Factory Rally wheels with 235/60/15 rubber make for a great stance. So go ahead and let the other guys restore their cars the way someone else ordered it. This one is your fantasy, but it doesn''t have to stay that way. Just give us a call and take it home today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom. For more information, please call (678) 279-1609 or toll free (877) 367-1835.
