Description:

No question the 1958 Impala is a landmark automobile, and is rapidly starting to eclipse its popular Tri-Five siblings in terms of desirability and value. This stunning resto-mod retains everything that was great about the Impala, and adds all the modern conveniences to create what is perhaps the ultimate ''50s luxury/performance coupe. The ''58 Impala never looks as good as when it''s dressed in black: formal, imposing, and emphasizing the dramatic one-year-only styling. During the build, they were aiming to create the ultimate ''58 with a high quality finish all around, so the doors fit extremely well, the gaps are even, and all that glittering trim was painstakingly aligned to give it the look the designers dreamed of in ''58. Two-stage urethane creates an impossibly high shine that will look this good for years and years, and all the correct Impala logos were faithfully refinished or replaced when it was dry. A small fortune was spent on getting the chrome up to shape, from the massive bumpers to the delicate fins atop the front fenders to the dual antennas on the rear fenders, with the final product looking shiny and bright. Very impressive! Although there''s a lot of new stuff under the skin, the interior was restored to factory specifications using red tri-tone upholstery as original. The beautiful door panels feature red anodized inserts, and you''ll note that power windows have been neatly integrated so they look OEM. The factory gauges have all been restored, and it''s possible that the 120 MPH speedometer is no longer adequate for this car. A/C has been subtly added under the dash, but beyond that it''s pretty much the way GM built it back in 1958. The factory AM radio is still in the dash, the original gauges are watching the engine up front, and the beautiful two-tone steering wheel emphasizes the 1950s fascination with space travel. Even more remarkable, we believe the 42,694 miles shown on the odometer could be authentic, although we unfortunately don''t have any docs to prove it. Either way, you can''t argue wih the finished product and this car truly is one of the most beautiful designs to ever hit the road. Finishing things off out back, the trunk carries a full-sized spare tire and wheel assembly. The top engine in 1958 was a 348 cubic inch V8, instantly recognizable by its M-shaped valve covers. With plenty of dress-up, including a chrome air cleaner and finned aluminum valve covers, it looks as flashy as the rest of the car, and with Chevy Orange paint, there''s no question that this is bowtie muscle. The A/C system uses modern components and R134a refrigerant, so it''s effective and easy to service, and the braking system uses a dual-circuit master cylinder feeding vented front disc brakes for safety. A 2-speed PowerGlide transmission spins the original rear end, so it''s happy around town and on the highway, and in both cases the burbling dual exhaust system sounds fantastic blowing through a pair of chrome tips just under the rear bumper. Fantastic Coy''s alloy wheels give it a retro look with a modern touch and wear staggered 225/45/18 front and 245/40/20 rear Kumho performance radials. This is an extremely impressive ''58 Impala that captures not only the best of what was possible at the time, but everything that it could be with just a bit of modern technology. Call today!
