If Chevrolet got all crazy and rolled out a brand-new 1957 Bel Air today, perhaps this is what it would look like. Fuel injection, overdrive, 4-wheel disc brakes, and an interior that looks like it belongs in a modern Cadillac all give you the impression that someone was very serious about building a modern interpretation of a timeless classic. The bright red look is pure ''57 Bel Air magic, and this is the car that has lived in your imagination since you were eight years old. Workmanship is well done, and it''s clear to look at it that they cared about making this one something you could be proud of. The build cost a reported $125,000, and a good chunk of that surely went into the bodywork. Fit and finish are exemplary with tight gaps and alignment on the trim straight enough to use as a ruler. The paint is miles deep and buffed to a mirror-like shine, and when you park this car next to many other ''57s, it seems to stand out simply due to the eyeball-burning hue. There''s probably $30,000 worth of chrome and stainless on the car, all of it beautifully restored, and with tinted windows, this resto-mod has just the right amount of modern sensibility to tip onlookers off that something special is going on here. Nothing has been modified, shaved, or removed, and all of it looks factory fresh (or better!), making this a wonderful car that catches people totally off guard when they see it. If you want to truly be impressed, however, just take a look inside. Late-model power bucket seats with integrated seat belts anchor a charcoal gray leather interior that looks like it came out of a high-end luxury car. A custom-fabricated console has an incredible OEM look to it, right down to the burled walnut insert and stepped shifter that were borrowed from a high-end European import. Digital gauges replace the originals, and with the entire dash wrapped in soft-touch gray upholstery and matching paint, it''s understated yet striking in its execution. Upgrades of course include cold A/C, a powerful AM/FM/cassette stereo with CD changer, power windows, and a tilt column with a custom wheel on top. The OEM appearance continues in back, where the trunk sports matching carpets and upholstered side panels, including the battery box. A fuel-injected 350 cubic inch LT1 V8 was dropped between the fenders and the big engine bay was fully dressed in chrome and matching red details. Note how the custom radiator is mounted outside the radiator cradle to add room and all the lines and hoses have been routed for easy service. Lots of fabricated aluminum components are the mark of professionals at work, plus that custom firewall that adds plenty of clearance. A hand-fabricated stainless steel exhaust system anchors a highly detailed undercarriage that has just test and tune miles on it, so everything is very factory-appearing. Four-wheel disc brakes give it modern whoa to match the go, and with a 700R4 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission, it is a comfortable, relaxed cruiser. It shows just a bit of rake on the ride height, but only enough to accentuate the 17-inch chrome wheels and staggered performance radials. The guys who built the interior in particular were craftsmen of the highest order. If the OEM look appeals to you, there aren''t many finer than this ''57. Call today!
