With all the resto-mods and custom cars running around, sometimes it''s refreshing to see a clean, honest, almost completely stock early Mustang. This lovely 1966 coupe features a wonderfully traditional color combination, a smooth and economical six-cylinder engine, and an extra-large dose of charm. Code M Wimbledon White was a popular choice in 1966, and it still stands out today when everyone''s building bright red and black Mustangs. On the hardtop body style, it''s sophisticated, more of a gentleman''s express than street brawler, which is surely Ford''s intention. Bodywork is quite good, with straight panels and good alignment throughout, staying true to the Mustang''s roots as an affordable, fun car. The finish is modern urethane, so the shine is deeper than anything science could dream up in the ''60s and it''ll look great for years to come. Somewhere along the way they added a pair of blue racing stripes, which always look great on Ford''s early pony cars, and they help the six look the part of a sporty car. It''s also nicely detailed just as it would have been in 1966, with bright chrome bumpers, a shiny pony in its corral up front, and standard Mustang emblems on the front fenders. No body modifications, no custom pieces, just an honest, clean little Mustang that looks like a million bucks. The interior is the same deal-clean and done in original Code 22 Blue with Blue trim. Fresh seat covers with Ford''s trademark "comfort-weave" inserts give the buckets a racy look, while remaining comfortable enough for long-distance cruising. Correct carpets have been fitted, and the sleek center console looks far more expensive and upscale than the Mustang''s price would suggest. Other than the steering wheel, which is a slightly fatter version of the original wood-rimmed accessory, the interior is quite stock in every way, showing very little wear and offering all the charm that made Mustangs famous. All the gauges are fully functional, and there''s an aftermarket AM/FM stereo radio with speakers on the rear package shelf, making cruising is a joy. The trunk is also neatly finished with a reproduction plaid mat and full-sized spare tire, so you can travel with confidence. It would be a mistake to dismiss the 200 cubic inch inline-six without a test drive. Torquey and smooth, it''s perhaps the right choice for these uncertain times and delivers impressive fuel economy while remaining a lot of fun to drive. Dressed in Ford Blue with a chrome valve cover and painted air cleaner, it looks awesome and starts immediately with a turn of the key. The satin black inner panels are obviously super clean and much of the wiring is new. Simplicity is this car''s motto, with no power steering or power brakes to worry about repairing and a rugged C4 3-speed automatic feeding the original rear end. A newer single exhaust system gives it a great grumbly six-cylinder exhaust note and it still carries its original-style wire wheel covers on 195/70/14 whitewall radials. Good, clean, honest Mustangs like this are getting increasingly hard to find. For Mustang enthusiasts on a budget, this is a great way to enjoy one of the all-time greats. Call today!
