Description:

For reasons that aren''t altogether clear, the Oldsmobile Cutlass continues to be a bargain-priced alternative to the virtually identical Chevelles and GTOs out there. This particularly handsome 1972 Cutlass has been treated to an extremely high-end restoration and is highly documented with original paperwork, making it an outstanding choice for an affordable collectable. Generally, I''ve always felt the Oldsmobiles were the most handsome of the A-bodies, and in particular, the coupe with its more formal roofline and dramatic fender cut lines. . Just recently, the car was treated to a complete makeover, with a high-end paint shop handling code 81 Bamboo finish and delivering a stunning car that looks like it should be a lot more expensive than it is. The subtle paint is smooth and glossy, with no additional ornamentation to detract from the car''s handsome good looks. Somehow, the classic color only serves to emphasize the flared fenders and aggressively styled hood, while reinforcing the idea that Oldsmobiles aren''t just family cars. All the chrome and trim is intact and quite nice, including the intricate egg crate grille and multi-piece taillight lenses, and the tan vinyl roof looks fantastic. Open the door and you''ll discover an absolutely beautiful interior with lots of original components. The wide bench seat wears a correct reproduction seat cover, while it''s quite possible that the back seat is original. Details like the wood appliques on the door panels and dash remind you that this is a few steps up from a basic Chevy, and as an Oldsmobile, it''s loaded with upscale features. The original gauges show brushed stainless faces and delicate orange-tipped needles, with a woodgrained steering wheel that''s both unusual and ideally suited to the car''s mission. The A/C blows ice cold thanks to an R134a conversion, and the original radio is a relatively unusual AM/FM unit. The trunk shows off a correct Oldsmobile rubber mat, factory-looking gray paint, and includes a full-sized spare and jack assembly. One glance at the bright yellow Rocket 350 will tell you that this car definitely wants to run. Sharing nothing with the other GM engines of the same size, the Olds 350 is well-regarded for its virtually bulletproof construction and high-nickel-content iron block that has proven to be exceptionally durable over the years. It has been recently finished with an aluminum intake and Edelbrock 4-barrel carb, plus a billet air cleaner and chrome valve covers, so it''s not exactly stock but it''s still recognizable as an Olds. The chassis is as clean as you''d expect with a durable TH350 3-speed automatic transmission and 10-bolt rear end, plus a dual exhaust system that gives the car that familiar Oldsmobile growl. Four recent 225/70/14 white-letter radials have been fitted to handsome road wheels to complete the performance-oriented makeover. Documents include the original order form (they traded a blue 1965 Pontiac Lemans for it!), Protect-O-Plate, owner''s manual, and a bunch of restoration receipts. With just three owners, this pretty Olds is the answer when you''re looking to stand out without spending a fortune. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom.
