The military-spec Hummer is one heck of a machine, but unfortunately, getting your hands on one is all but impossible. Civilian versions are nice, but they''re an odd combination of uncomfortable interiors and domesticated mechanicals. So what''s a guy to do? How about this incredible all-aluminum Hummer built on a 1986 Chevy D30 commercial chassis? Go anywhere, do anything, and scare the heck out of the local citizenry while you''re at it. If it''s attention you want, did we mention this one comes equipped with an actual fully-restored locomotive horn that cost over $4,000 to install? If it''s the biggest and loudest you seek, this is the Hummer for you. With a build that''s only a few months old, this is the truck for the guy who has already done and seen it all. Civilian Hummers still make a statement on the road, and this one is the biggest, baddest of all. The all-aluminum body is by Cat-Vee out of Canada, and it certainly looks right on the oversized chassis. They nailed the boxy shape, the stubby bed out back, so nobody''s going to mistake this for anything else. The fiberglass hood is vented like the original, and the industrial-strength hardware, handles, and other fittings are exactly right. It''s all swathed in a coat of satin black paint that looks like it was ordered up by Bruce Wayne, with the only bright piece on the whole thing being the polished fuel filler door. A massive 8000-pound winch on the front bumper gets you out of trouble, and like I said, there''s a bed out back that can still carry gear in addition to the air tanks and batteries living inside. Just imagine showing up at the next family pickup in this thing! If you''ve ever been in a civilian Hummer (or military, for that matter), you know that the picnic-table-sized engine cover takes up most of the space, with some tiny buckets for passengers installed almost as an afterthought. This Hummer is different, offering comfortable bucket seats and plenty of elbow room, all thanks to a more conventional powertrain layout. An aluminum dash continues the industrial-strength look with a full array of Auto Meter instruments, simple rocker switches, and a GM tilt column. Power windows and a CD stereo with iPod compatibility deliver a modicum of civility and if you need an idea of how big this sucker really is, just look at the back seat which is big enough for four abreast seating. The engine is a 12-valve Cummins turbo diesel, and if you''re at all familiar with the exploding popularity of oil-burners in the past decade, you know this one makes the kind of towering torque that will move buildings. Fully functional, it starts quickly and idles with a quivering intensity that suggests it''s eager to run. Service access is quite good, but with the way these things run, it''s sure to be virtually bulletproof in the real world. It''s backed by an industrial-grade Allison automatic gearbox and a custom 5-inch turbo-back exhaust system barks and belches just the way you''d hope from the world''s baddest troop transport. A massive 14-bolt rear end is up to all the punishment the engine can dish out, and with 4-wheel disc brakes, it''s surprisingly easy to keep it all under control. A 4-inch body lift makes room for those gargantuan 44-inch tires, which are mounted on blacked-out 18-inch wheels. Big performance for a fraction of the price of a real one. If you like the look, you''re going to love how this Hummer replica moves. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom.
