The 1956 Caribbean Convertible was the last of the full size Packardsproduced. This car sold new in 1956 for $5,995.00.This car today is still in its original Dover White, Scottish Heatherand Maltese Gray, this is not a restored car but an original.The Caribbean was powered by by Packard''s own massive 374-cubic-inch V8with an impressive 310 horsepower ratingthanks, in part, to twinfour-barrel Rochester carburetors.The 374 cubic-inch engine was the highest in the industry. The enginefeatured two - 4 barrel carburetors with 10:1 compression ratio and apush button automatic transmission.Standard luxury equipment included Ultramatic automatic transmissionwith push-button controls on a column stalk , gold-tone ''Caribbean''scripts surrounding the car, power windows, power seat, a Wonderbarradio and Power antennas. Impressive reversible seat cushions (bouclecloth on one side and leather on the other) were also featured.New for 1956 was the twin traction differential with limited slip''designed for the fellow who must drive in all kinds of weather.''Packard also featured other safety items for 1956 such as:- Side marker lights,- Wrap around parking and taillights,- Automatic torsion leveling system for optimum nighttime viability....This is #268 of 276 of 276 Packard Caribbean Convertibles produced byPackard in 1956. It has its original 374 cubic-inch V-8 engine with itsoriginal components, see photos of the bearings that are unscathed andin perfect condition after traveling only 50,000 miles since new. Allcomponents are in perfect tolerance. please see photos ofthe bearing date stamps.This car has all of the unique features:- Fully reversible seat cushions, cloth on one side for winter andleather on the other side for summer, - Ultra-Matic push button automatic transmission , - Unique torsion ride suspension which adjusts the cars ride height viaan electric motor.Caribbean has caused double takes when they first appeared in 1956, andthey continue to amaze today. One of only 276 built, this car has neverbeen shown as it has been in the position of the original owners sincenew and she had no interest in show her car.Today it still has it''s original engine bearings as the photos show andhas traveled on 50,000 miles since new. The original top and seat coverwere in outstanding condition however the threads were beginning tobrake as you sat on them, the originals are still with the car and willconvey with the transfer. The top has been meticulously duplicated tothe original specifications as well, due to the same circumstances.please note the underside of the top matches the interior of the car andwas only available on the Packard Caribbean.The engine and many other components of car were disassembled in order to verifythe originality.
