The Mercury Eight was the first model of the Ford Motor Company''s Mercury marque and was produced from the 1939 through the 1951 model years. It was the only model offered by Mercury until the marque starting producing multiple series in the 1952 model year, at which point it was dropped as a model designation. "The car that truly dares to ask ''Why?''," some ads said and although the question referred to dealt with why a big car couldn''t be an economical car too, another question might have been why the Ford Motor Company hadn''t introduced the Mercury sooner. The answer to that one undoubtedly was that it had taken that long for Edsel Ford to convince his father to build it. The Mercury was priced in the thousand dollar range, several hundred dollars more than the Ford V8, several hundred less than the Lincoln-Zephyr and about the same as the upper range Oldsmobile and Dodges and the lower-range Buicks and Chryslers, sales from all of which, it was hoped, the new Mercury would usurp. MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to present the handsome, triple black 1947 Mercury Club Convertible you see pictured. This is a one of a kind fresh build and was built to drive! Finished in black, the paint is in excellent condition, showing some minor imperfections. The body is all steel and in terrific shape. The underside of the Mercury is just as beautiful as the top! It appears that this black beauty was the recipient of a nut & bolt, complete restoration! The black convertible top is a Haartz cloth top and shows no signs of imperfection or wear. The windshield is a single curved piece of glass. The chrome on the coupe is in excellent condition and still maintains an incredible shine. This Mercury is destined to be a show stopper whether it be driving down the street or sitting pretty in a car show! Inside, you''ll find that the interior has been upgraded with late model seats wrapped in black leather. The seats, both front and back, are in beautiful condition and show no signs of wear or imperfections. The black carpet is in excellent condition, showing no wear or staining. The dashboard houses a set of custom white face VDO gauges that look stellar! Did we mention this Mercury is equipped with AC? This car is not only handsome on the outside, but on the inside as well! Under the hood, you''ll find a Chevrolet 350 cubic inch V8, complete with a Weiand supercharger and four barrel Edlebrock carburetor. The V8 powerhouse''s song exits the engine through means of headers and dual exhaust. Attached to the engine is a 700R automatic transmission. The Mercury sits upon a Ford rear end and a set of 15" black chrome Coy''s wheels wrapped in P215/65R15 tires in the front and P675/60R15 tires in the rear. The VIN to this beautiful, black Mercury is 799A1915591 and the mileage currently shows 162, representing mileage since restoration. Included with the car is a car show display board. It is being sold on a clean and clear Illinois title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!
