Description:

The Challenger was described in a book about 1960s American cars as Dodge''s "answer to the Mustang and Camaro." It was one of two Chrysler E-body cars, the other being the slightly smaller Plymouth Barracuda. "Both the Challenger and Barracuda were available in a staggering number of trim and option levels" and were intended "to compete against cars like the Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang, and to do it while offering virtually every engine in Chrysler''s inventory." However, the Challenger was "a rather late response to the pony car wave the Ford Mustang had started." In his book Hemi Muscle Cars, Robert Genat wrote that the Challenger was conceived in the late 1960s as Dodge''s equivalent of the Plymouth Barracuda, and that the Barracuda was designed to compete against the Mustang. The Barracuda was actually the first car in this sporty car segment by a few months, but was quickly overshadowed by the release of the segment defining Mustang (the segment being referred to as "Pony Car"). He added that Chrysler intended the new Dodge as "the most potent pony car ever," and positioned it "to compete against the Mercury Cougar and Pontiac Firebird." Genat also noted that the "Barracuda was intended to compete in the marketplace with the Mustang and Camaro/Firebird, while the Dodge was to be positioned against the Cougar" and other more luxury-type muscle cars. MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to present the gorgeous Sublime Green 1970 Dodge Challenger you see here. This particular Challenger is a great example of the pony platform Dodge introduced to directly compete with the other manufacturers. This Challenger comes equipped with the 318 cubic inch small block, automatic transmission, power steering and power brakes. The Challenger you see here is one of the High Impact colors, which were an extra $14 in 1970: Sublime (FJ5 code) with a White full vinyl roof and Black/White vinyl interior (XW code). The paint is in exceptional condition, only showing minor imperfections, which is typical of a 43 year old original car. The body is sound, as it should be. The hardtop is finished in white vinyl and looks great, showing no notable staining, imperfections or wear. The whole look to this Challenger is completed with a tough looking Rallye hood. The chrome looks excellent with only minor imperfections and a beautiful luster. This is truly a beautiful Mopar! Inside, you will find that original interior is still intact. The seats are wrapped in White/Black interior (XW Code) and show no notable signs of wear or imperfections in both the front and back. This car is equipped with vinyl bucket seats and a console shifter. The door panels match the interior and look great with no signs of wear or imperfections. The carpet is black and looks great! The dashboard appears to be original and looks great as well. There is an aftermarket Pioneer AM/FM/CD/MP3 player as well, which makes those afternoon cruises more enjoyable! Overall, the interior is in excellent condition. Under the hood, you will find a 318 cubic inch V8 engine, complete with Edlebrock cylinder heads, an Edlebrock Intake and an Edlebrock two barrel carburetor. Attached to the V8 is an automatic transmission with a shifter in the center console. This car came equipped with power steering & power brakes. The Challenger sits upon a set of 15" chrome Crager wheels wrapped in P215/70R15 tires in the front and P275/60R15 tires in the rear. Both the front and rear brake drums have been painted to match the exterior the car and ever so slightly peek through the wheels. This gorgeous Mopar would make an excellent addition to any car collection! The VIN is JH23G0B357352 and the mileage currently shows 83,508, which is believed to be original to the car. This Challenger is being sold on a clean & clear title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
