The traditional formula for a fast car is a big honkin'' engine in the smallest possible package. Well, nothing nails that equation better than this 1948 Ford Anglia stuffed full of Chevy stroker motor. Fully re-engineered to be safe, fun, and reliable, this diminutive powerhouse is exactly the kind of car that makes grown men giggle like children every time they crack the throttle. When you''re this small, you really do need to attract attention, and nothing does it better than the fantastic lime green pearl paint on this English Ford. The four-door sedan bodywork was left pretty much as it was more than sixty-five years ago, nicely restored and given a thorough makeover that better suits its current personality. The door handles on the rear doors were shaved, but for the most part this little car is about what you would have seen putting around the streets of London back in the late ''40s. It does fit together rather nicely, and while the build is a few years old and has been driven and enjoyed, there''s still no better way to get noticed than this tiny car. Enough chrome to keep things interesting remains on the car, and the tall, narrow grille is instantly recognizable for anyone who has followed hot rodding for the past four decades. Given the height of the average American and the need for a little more space under the hood, the entire interior has been reconfigured to better accommodate today''s rodder. All four doors still open, but the rear doors are all but redundant today, as the front bucket seats have been pushed back to open up some legroom for the driver and passenger. The rear seat has been eliminated altogether to permit widened wheel housings in back, which are probably mandatory given how much horsepower lives under the pointy hood. The steering wheel was moved back over to the left, with a center instrument cluster housing white-faced Auto Meter instruments in a handsome wooden dashboard. A custom center console houses the AM/FM/CD stereo, as well as a CB and a Lokar shifter a little farther back. Upholstery is gray tweed and the interior is well finished throughout. There''s even a decent-sized trunk and plenty of storage where the back seat used to be, so this car can easily make the long trips. Those long trips will be alittle shorter thanks to a thundering 383 cubic inch small block Chevy under the pointed Anglia hood. It''s a tight fit in there, but thanks to some clever packaging and a relocated firewall, it works out just fine. There''s a bit of chrome under the hood, some Mickey Thompson valve covers, and plenty of custom fabrication to make it work as well as it does. A big radiator up front and an Audi front clip with rack-and-pinion steering mean that it tracks like a cruise missile on the highway, and a TH350 3-speed automatic does all the hard work for you. Out back, the rear end hangs on a custom 4-link setup to it hooks up hard without a lot of drama. Having been driven quite a bit, it''s obviously sorted out and runs superbly and rides great on staggered 165R15 front and 265/50/15 rear BFG radials on shiny Weld wheels.
