Description:

Vehicle to be offered for Auction sale September 26th-28th at Russo and Steele''s inaugural Las Vegas, Nevada Auction. Please contact us for more information. This 1968 GT500 was delivered to Allen Young at Stark Hickey Ford in Michigan with factory air conditioning, Candy Apple Red paint, 4-speed transmission, and many options including tilt/pop power steering, power front disc brakes, Deluxe interior, fold- down rear seat, Marchal fog lights, radio, and more. This Shelby was one of 15 cars so equipped for 1968, and the only one of its kind delivered to the Midwest. Unfortunately, for Mr. Young, the factory failed to install the galley plugs in his 428 Cobra Jet engine resulting in engine failure at 707 miles. Fortunately, this chain of events is fully documented with numerous invoices and even a copy of the cancelled check from Shelby to Stark Hickey with the invoice numbers printed on the check. The Deluxe Marti report, assembly-line keypunch cards, original build sheet, BUC tag, original VIN plate, and Shelby American World Registry entry (Page 944) further document this unique piece of Shelby history. But there''s more! The original glass retains a Participant sticker from the 1969 NHRA Nationals at Indy, strongly suggesting period racing history, and under the hood is a real 1968 Ford 427 side-oiler, with cast date 2-20-68 and fed by Ram Air! The engine rebuild included a 1969 1UA SCJ crank, 427 Le Mans rods, SCJ heads, SS valves and hardened seats, 10.9-1 custom flat-top Wiseco pistons, a 427 intake, and much more! While there were no factory-built 427 Shelby GT500s built in 1968, this GT500 is as close as you will ever get! The original and unrestored front suspension carries the original tie-rod ends, ball joints, and all but 2 original bushings. The transmission, rear end, and glass are original. The beautiful and mostly unrestored interior features all gauges and the clock in working order. This car shows what professional restorers can do when given carte blanche and a solid car to work with. This unique car is highly documented, mostly restored, and simply a magnificent piece of Shelby history, complete with a Deluxe Marti Report. TITLED AS A 1968 FORD GT500
