Built for speed, this 1969 Camaro SS396 looks fast just sitting still. And while it''s great-looking, the real story is under the hood, because this coupe packs a potent 468 inch big block, a 5-speed transmission, and enough horsepower to make you forget this car is more than 40 years old. Bathed in sizzling red paint with black SS stripes, nobody will be able to overlook this one. Fully restored only three years ago and still looking amazing today, the Garnet Red paint and bodywork on this Camaro is flashy, no two ways about it. From the blacked-out grille to the ducktail spoiler out back, this car certainly looks fast. Gaps are very good and someone definitely spent some time getting everything to line up properly, because on these cars you just can''t cheat-that body line that runs between the wheel openings will give hack work away every time. Chrome and stainless have been restored or replaced with quality reproduction items, including all the badges and those cool inserts in the "gills" ahead of the rear wheels. If you want a Camaro that looks like a million bucks, this is it. The black bucket seat interior is also built to play. Nicely done with new seat covers, carpets and door panels, it''s clean and quite stock-looking. The seat covers are in excellent condition with very little use since the restoration was completed, and the back seat looks untouched. All the correct performance equipment given the upgrades under the hood, including a factory tach in the dash and auxiliary gauges mounted on the console, means that this Camaro is ready to rock without needing to be asked twice. You''ll also note the center console was retained, but that the Hurst shifter now controls five gears instead of four. The original radio is a rather rare factory AM/FM unit and this is a factory air-conditioned car, now with modern hardware to ensure excellent performance. The trunk carries a reproduction mat and a full-sized spare tire on a matching Rally wheel. As I mentioned, however, the real story on this one lives under the hood. The engine is a 468 cubic inch big block, renowned for big horsepower and torque production. It''s dressed up like a factory L78 with expert detailing that even got the little stuff right. Chrome valve covers and an open-element air cleaner wear bright chrome, with the block sporting traditional Chevy Orange. Up front, a massive aluminum radiator keeps the hot small block cool under the most demanding conditions, while an Edelbrock intake and carb handle the fuel. Long-tube headers feed a Flowmaster dual exhaust, which skirts neatly around the Tremec 5-speed manual transmission and over the 12-bolt rear. It''s almost as clean underneath as it is up top, which is more proof that this car was restored right. Handsome Corvette Rally wheels with 225/60/15 front and 245/60/15 rear BFG radials give it just the right stance. There are a lot of nice ''69 Camaros out there, but this one is truly a wolf in sheep''s clothing. That big block combined with the 5-speed makes a truly potent combination, and while the looks aren''t exactly subtle, this is a 44-year-old car that can surprise some much newer hardware. With timeless good looks that will never go out of style, this is a car that you''ll be able to enjoy for years to come. Call now! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom.
