Description:

The Lincoln Mark V was the last of the big American land yachts. Driving one of these meant you had finally arrived, and with big block power and every power option Ford engineers could come up with, it was the epitome of luxury and style. This 1978 Mark V shows just 16,848 original miles and is one of those incredible survivors that set the benchmark for the rest of us. The Mark''s good looks work well with the Gold Metallic paint (nice naming job there, Lincoln), and there''s no reason it shouldn''t be proud of its ''70s heritage. Of course, as an ultra-low-mileage survivor, the paint is completely original and in outstanding condition given that it''s coming up on 35 years old. Fit and finish were pretty good at the Lincoln factory, and the long doors open and close with a solid feeling that you''d expect from such a high-end machine. Out back there''s the traditional Continental tire hump and the padded half-roof with opera windows was a staple of the Mark series throughout the ''70s. Even the plastic rub strips running the length of the body are in excellent condition on this car, seemingly defying the passage of time. All the chrome is vintage 1978 and the front turn signal marker lights should get some kind of award for being such beautiful and intricate pieces. Tan leather upholstery complements the gold paint quite well and like the rest of the car, shows minimal wear. More gothic straight lines form the dashboard and instrument panel, which is paneled in simulated burled walnut and shows brushed stainless gauge faces that are reminiscent of high-end clocks. More faux wood on the steering wheel frames the cruise control buttons, and all the power options you can imagine are included, ranging from a power driver''s seat to automatic climate control to power windows and locks. The plush carpets are not quite deep enough to be considered shag, which is a relief, and they''re in excellent shape thanks to a set of color-matched mats that have been protecting them for years. The original AM/FM stereo radio still works and sounds decent given that the interior is one of the quietest places you''ll ever experience, even on the highway at 75 MPH. And don''t worry about long road trips, because the massive trunk, even with a full-sized spare, will carry everything you''d need for a few weeks out of town. The big 460 cubic inch V8 won''t notice the load, either. It''s the right engine for a luxury cruiser like this, designed to just loaf along at highway speeds in eerie silence. Smooth torque is its specialty, and thanks to expert care, it starts quickly and idles quietly like a Lincoln should. Corporate blue paint on the engine still looks new and all the factory equipment remains in place with only routine service items updated over the past three decades. The C6 3-speed automatic transmission shifts unobtrusively and feeds 2.73 gears out back which help with fuel economy. The chassis is extremely clean and shows modest signs of use but no damage or rust, and handsome cast aluminum wheels with 215/75/15 whitewall radials enhance the ride. These cars are catching on with collectors who are buying up the last of the low-mileage originals like this. Enjoy the ultimate in ''70s luxury for not a lot of cash. Call today!
