Cheap thrills...in a vintage Mustang? Hey, sometimes you get lucky! Bright blue on black, a hot 302 under the hood, Flowmasters, bright wheels...this is a cool car, and the perfect one for a first time buyer. Outside, the original Lime Gold Metallic was mercifully wiped asunder for shades of Acapulco Blue, and that''s one of the best colors for Mustangs of any year. The body is straight but not too straight, the paint isn''t so glossy you''ll worry over it, and the car looks well loved. If you''re wanting a car you could pound on every day of the week and not worry about armed guards watching over it at the grocery store, this is it. That big running horse in the grille announces your arrival in a way few cars can pull off. The bumpers are straight and shiny, the trim''s nice for original stuff and the lenses are clean. The glass is original other than the windshield. You''ll turn heads for sure. Inside, Ford got it right by putting in black buckets. The seat covers and carpet are obvious replacements, but the door panels, most of the trim and dash are original. A shiny Grant GT polished aluminum steering wheel feels great in your hands. Frills are low, in keeping with the coupe''s mission. The bright silver dash trim is a welcome accent to the black upholstery. A new Pioneer CD player with a front USB port beats the heck out of that old two-watt Philco that came new, and there are new speakers in the rear deck and kick panels, so you''re sure to hear your tunes. Under the hood, the original 289 2bbl hit the curb in favor of a warmed up, dressed up 302. A decent cam sets the pace, a lightweight aluminum manifold and Holley carburetor ingests the fuel, and the long tube headers carry away the remains. Braided hose wrappings cover the coolant and fuel lines while bright blue split loom tubing covers anything that passes current. An Optima battery gets things rolling while power steering makes maneuvering a snap. A chromed export brace wraps around an aluminum Moroso air cleaner and finned aluminum valve covers. A manual master cylinder activates the upgraded front disc brakes below and be sure to check out the pictures of the rear floor pans first-that''s not only original paint, those are the original primer drips frozen in time for more than 40 years. That''s a far cry from the rotted metal you''ll find under most cars of this vintage! The front suspension was rebuilt recently with new upper and lower control arms, sway bar bushings and steering linkage parts. Backing up the 302 is a hearty C4, fortified with a deep transmission pan and the stock 8-inch rear is in place, holding highway friendly gears. Those headers dump into newer pipes and on to Flowmaster mufflers before ending in axle dumps. Suffice to say you won''t get away with sneaking around your neighborhood! American Racing Torque Thrust II wheels carry 235/60R16 tires at all four corners, offering up improved handling and looks. A sharp Mustang in a great color, with good power under the hood, a clean interior and some nice wheels is always nice to have. One that''s available for the price of a used Kia is even better.
