Hot rod builders can draw their inspiration from a lot of sources, but this 1955 Chevy Bel Air has a very distinct pedigree. Yes, it''s built in the gasser style, but it''s fondly nicknamed "Falfa''s Revenge" in honor of the fast ''55 that Harrison Ford drove in "American Graffiti." It all makes sense now, doesn''t it? The nose-up gasser look was more than fashion, it was function, designed to plant more weight over the rear wheels and thereby improve traction off the line. This award-winning Chevy nails that vintage race look but adds a lot of modern upgrades, as well as the safety and comfort needed to be a reliable street machine. Fit and finish are exemplary, although the lack of a hood and front bumper/grille assembly probably made getting it all together a breeze. In place of the original front end, there''s a fabricated spreader bar with a Moon tank and a set of Corvette "teeth" have been stuffed into the original grille opening for a custom look. The rest of the trim was stripped for racing, keeping only the bare minimum to make it functional as a car. Based on the exterior, you''ll be shocked by how civilized the interior is. The bench seats feature tuck-and-roll upholstery, a full dash with Auto Meter gauges in the original housing, and it has been completely carpeted to control noise and heat. Despite its look, it was really designed to be a capable long-distance cruiser and comfortable street car, and the interior makes that happen. Custom door panels feature window nets for safety (and a certain look) and the steering wheel has a vintage track racer look. A B&M shifter sits on the transmission tunnel where it''s mere inches away and a Moon tach has been mounted overhead, which is very slick. There is no back seat, but a period Ratfink character tells you all you need to know about this car''s inspiration. The trunk offers a fuel safe (not merely a fuel cell), the battery, as well as a big bottle of nitrous that''s never been used. In the hardware department, this car doesn''t mess around. Motivation comes from a 468 cubic inch Chevy V8 with a fresh carb and polished intake fed by a 2-stage nitrous system that''s never been fired. Chevy Orange on the block and vintage finned valve covers look authentic in the black engine bay, and the workmanship is first-rate, with a dedication to keeping everything period-correct. The chassis is highly detailed, with every single component either polished or powdercoated, and every fastener is stainless. The built TH400 3-speed automatic has a reverse manual valve body and it spins the original 1955 rear end with 4.56 gears on a Posi. The front suspension is from a Chevelle, so there''s no squirrelly gasser handling, and disc brakes keep it safe. Polished Torque Thrusts give it just the right look for the era, and wear 185/65/15 front and N50-15 rear tires. Documented in the pages of "Hot Rod" magazine and the recipient of awards at big shows in Texas and Southern California, this is a pedigreed retro-rod that always draws a crowd. Complete with the original rendering of "Falfa''s Revenge," it''s a cool piece of nostalgia that will always tell a great story. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Dallas/Fort Worth showroom.
