Description:

Some guys take their fun very seriously. Take the guy who built this 1980 Jeep CJ7, which carries a lot of hardcore off-road gear, four racing seats complete with harnesses, and a potent small block V8. And if you''ve been watching our inventory lately, you already know that these vintage Jeeps, especially built to this level, just don''t stick around very long. The vivid electric blue paint job is just what you''d want on your off-roader, not so perfect you''re afraid to get it dirty, but good-looking enough that it attracts a lot of attention on the street. While it''s clean, take a look at the straight bodywork, including the solid half doors, which are a late addition to the lineup, as the CJ7 didn''t offer them in 1980. Then there''s the solid body tub, rubber flares over the giant tires, and that massive black brush guard up front and a tubular bumper out back. Lots of chrome details, ranging from the hood latches and windshield corners to the flip-up gas cap give it a lot of sparkle that will still show up when the Jeep''s out in the brush playing. The paint itself is two-stage urethane, which is durable enough for the rough stuff, and shines up beautifully just by hosing it off. Clearly someone did it right when they put this one together. Jeep interiors have always been about function over form, and for utilitarian good looks, they''ve perfected the formula. Clearly this one was intended for serious fun off-road, which explains the form-fitting buckets front and rear, with different colored piping on them for a whimsical effect. Matching blue 5-point harnesses are probably a good idea when you''re bouncing around, and with a full roll cage, it''s a very safe place to be. However, basic doesn''t mean stripped, as there''s carpet on the floor instead of the usual rubber mat (although it does have floor mats for some added protection) and a powerful AM/FM/CD stereo with speakers in the center stack that actually sound pretty darned good. The instrument panel and control layout is pretty close to what you got back in the early days of the Jeep brand, but if it works, why change it? There''s also a tilt column with a modern steering wheel, plus full weather equipment including a top and side curtains. In 1980, nobody was making big horsepower, so the original engine in this Jeep was jettisoned and replaced by a sweet-running 350 cubic inch Chevy V8. With the usual upgrades including an Edelbrock carb and intake, HEI ignition system, and a set of long-tube headers dumping into a set of side pipes, it has plenty of power to get this Jeep just about anywhere. It also wears a modern serpentine belt system for reliability, plenty of chrome dress-up, and shows tidy workmanship throughout. It''s backed by a 4-speed manual gearbox and the original transfer case and axles, which hardly need an upgrade. The suspension has been lifted and fitted with Rough Country shocks, and new Warn hubs for trouble-free off-roading. And unlike many Jeeps, this one wears modern 17-inch alloys with positively massive 315/70/17 BFGoodrich radials. These classic CJs will not be getting cheaper, and if you like to play in the dirt, this one is a turn-key solution that''s ready to rock today. Call now!
