Incredibly over-built and filled with both performance and comfort-enhancing upgrades, this 1978 Ford F100 pickup is a no-compromises build with a 460 big block, a 5-speed, and factory air, all wrapped in a fantastic black short bed/regular cab body. Is this the ultimate ''70s Ford pickup? The Ranger XLT is iconic these days, and if you were around in the ''70s, you got used to seeing a lot of these on the road. Today, however, finding one that hasn''t been worked back into the ground is challenging. Some survived by virtue of simply being cool, and this one, perhaps because it''s black with a big block, managed to get stashed away instead of put out to pasture. The paint is more recent, of course, and looks great on the chiseled bodywork and it shows off the fact that it''s straight, rust-free, and undamaged. There are a few updates that give it a unique look starting with custom headlights and LED taillights, a hard-shell bed cover, running lights in the grille, and tinted windows. For safety, there''s also an LED third brake light up on top of the cab and plenty of brightwork on the body to break up all that inky black paint. Steel Horse bucket seats in valor dove gray have been fitted into the cab and it gives this truck a whole new lease on life. Instead of looking like ''70s working class, it''s 21st century first class and includes a host of trick modifications. The most notable is the custom-made center console, which not only houses the shifter for the Tremec 5-speed gearbox, but also a pair of cup holders and a CD changer, all faced in genuine wood that warms up the interior. Then there''s the instrument panel, which uses digital gauges hidden behind a tinted Plexiglas screen to give it a totally smooth look when the power''s off and a magical light show when you turn the key. A wood-rimmed steering wheel adds some elegance to the already nicely appointed interior, and luxury features like A/C, cruise control, a tilt wheel, power windows, and an AM/FM/cassette head unit in the dash make it feel like a new truck. Overhead, there''s a CB radio fitted to the headliner, just in case you need some company out on the road. It''s pretty impressive. The engine is a beautifully detailed 460 cubic inch big block that looks great and runs even better. Holley Pro-Jection fuel injection was hidden under the stock air cleaner for a very subtle look, along with a Weiand Stealth intake. The block itself was bored .030 over and filled with a fresh rotating assembly, then painted Ford Blue and topped with chrome Motorsport valve covers. At the rear, you''ll find loads of torque capacity with a Strange 9 inch 31-spline Detroit Truetrac differential with Superior billet steel axles. The A/C system was upgraded to R134a refrigerant, and with power steering and brakes, it''s easy to forget you''re driving a vintage pickup. A big aluminum radiator with electric fan keeps temperatures under control and ceramic-coated headers feed a great-sounding dual exhaust with chrome tips peeking out from under the rear bumper. Handsome chrome alloys set off the black paint and wear big 30x9.50x15 Michelin radials. Not many trucks get this kind of makeover so late in life, but they really seem to have spared no expense to make this Ford spectacular. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom.
