The 1949 Ford was groundbreaking when it was new, and today they make for some of the coolest customs you can build. With the fat-fender look over, the sleek 1949 Fords were the first truly modern Ford, and with just a few subtle mods and a fresh black paint job, this custom 1949 business coupe is a great way to stand out from all the 1949 Mercurys you see at the shows. Sometimes, simple is best, so the guys who built this awesome Ford kept the good stuff and merely refined it into the slick custom you see here. The business coupe shape is a favorite of restorers and customizers alike for obvious reasons, so they wisely left the greenhouse intact. Instead, they focused on shaving the door handles and extraneous trim, adding some traditional louvers to the hood, and familiar custom mods like frenched headlights and taillights, molded-in bumpers, and giving the car an ultra-smooth look. There''s also a toothy grille insert that looks like it was perhaps borrowed from an early-50s DeSoto and neatly fitted inside the original 1949 Ford framework, a slick trick that gives this Ford a totally unique and instantly recognizable look. Traditional with a twist is the word inside, where pleated tuck-and-roll upholstery has been fitted to the original front bench seat. Inside you''ll find that the black and white theme continues. The original speedometer is directly ahead of the driver, visible through the fat wood-rimmed wheel, but there are plenty of auxiliary gauges fitted in and under the dash to give you a complete picture of what''s going on mechanically. Truthfully, the original design is so slick and interesting, there''s really not much point in extensive modifications, because unless you''re an expert on these cars, it''s going to look custom anyway. A Hurst shifter manages the TH350 3-speed automatic underneath, there are recent black carpets on the floor, and the trunk is noteworthy in the fact that it is completely rust-free and solid. Mechanically, this car is about as reliable as you can get, thanks to a freshly-installed 350 cubic inch Chevy V8 that''s been bored .30 over. Inside the motor you''ll find a load of goodies, including Keith Black pistons as well as Erson roller rockers and cam, Hidden under that slick 1954 Cadillac air cleaner is a fresh Edelbrock 650CFM carburetor, and the chrome valve covers make it look like someone cared. The installation is well-done and service access is still quite good, making this a car you could potentially drive every day. The original radiator is cooled by a big electric fan up front and dual exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers give it a healthy rumble on the street. The chassis looks quite original and solid, and save for some lowering springs up front and custom traction bars with lowering blocks out back, it''s stock so service is easy. It sits right and the classic wide whites on spun aluminum discs looks straight out of the 1950''s. A neat custom at a great price, ready to enjoy or take to the next level. Call today!
