This 1978 Anniversary ''Vette sports a subdued silver paint job, its original L82/4-speed combination, and just about every option you could get in 1978. Have a look. The silver paint is correct, but when the repaint was done a few years ago, the owner chose to forego the two-tone treatment, which ironically makes this one stand out in a crowd. Otherwise, it''s the same awesome look that has been winning fans for thirty-five years and the silver paint allows the always-dramatic C3 bodywork to do all the talking. The 59,900 miles is believed to be accurate and this one appears to have never been wrecked or seriously injured, so it fits together quite well, and following the respray, even the front and rear end caps match the body, something the factory always had trouble achieving. It has a great shine that emphasizes the silver''s ability to sparkle, and single pinstripes accent the "Coke bottle" fender curves as well as decals that give the hood a cowl induction look. Chrome bumpers were long gone by 1978 and there''s really not much brightwork, but things like the lenses and Corvette crossed-flag emblems remain in excellent condition. Oyster leather is really the interior you want in your ''78. Not quite gray and not quite white, it has a sophisticated look that helps bolster the Corvette''s grand touring aspirations. The buckets remain in excellent condition with very little wear or discoloration, leading us to speculate that they''ve been restored. The carpets and door panels are equally nice and quite likely original, so you know this one has lived a fairly easy life. Options include factory A/C, power windows and locks, and a tilt/telescope steering column topped by a beautiful leather-wrapped wheel. The factory instruments are in good condition, with the tach parking itself at 900 RPM when the engine is off, just like all the other GM cars of the era. Entertainment is compliments of an AM/FM/cassette head unit that fits like the original and sounds worlds better. The top engine in 1978 was the L82, which made a stout 220 horsepower and allowed the Corvette to retain its performance crown. This car''s numbers matching engine is backed by a rare 4-speed manual, which only 3385 buyers chose in 1978 (out of more than 40,000 cars!). It remains almost completely stock, which is a relative rarity given how easy the small block Chevy is to modify. The twin-snorkel air cleaner gives it away, and the finned valve covers add a little flash under the hood, but the overall impression is simply a nice, clean Corvette that has been loved all its life. The aftermarket exhaust sounds throaty and offers chrome tips, and that''s just about the only deviation from stock. Original alloy wheels show virtually no curb rash or damage and spin inside fat 255/60/15 white-letter radials. A little unusual and a lot of fun, this ''78 Corvette has a lot to offer. For entry into the Corvette hobby, this car represents a lot of bang for the buck. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom.
