Description:

If a bright red Trans AM GTA can be considered a sleeper, this is it. At first glance, it''s merely an extremely well-preserved third-generation T/A, but under the skin, it''s got the performance to humiliate far more expensive machinery. If you like the look, you''re going to love how it moves. The GTA was perhaps the ultimate expression of Pontiac performance in the ''80s. Biggest engine, biggest tires, biggest brakes, biggest wing, it didn''t mix words and stood unabashedly for all-out performance. The fact that the shape was still working so well more than 7 years after its debut speaks highly of the original design, and few guys will argue that this isn''t a great-looking muscle car. For a car going on 25 years old, it also looks remarkably well preserved with vivid red paint, blemish-free ground-effects, and a reproduction fiberglass wing that replaces the damage-prone original. Add in the vented hood, T-tops, and taillights behind smoked Plexiglas, and you get the nastiest car this side of a Corvette. None of it gives any indication of what''s going on under the hood, either, so while the GTA was the most potent F-body on the street, today it will definitely catch folks by surprise. OK, so Pontiac was famous for their over-wrought interiors, but that''s all part of the appeal today. The deeply bolstered gray leather buckets are supportive and comfortable, and show the kind of gentle use that characterizes your favorite clothes. The steering wheel is festooned with buttons, as is the dash, but GM stuck to simple analog gauges that worked better for performance driving than the digital setup from just a few years earlier. Of course, being the 1980s, there''s a graph-paper-type decoration to all the dash and center console surfaces, but like the bodywork, that was simply high fashion at the time. The GTA also came loaded with just about everything, including A/C, power windows and locks, a tilt wheel, and power mirrors. An Alpine AM/FM/CD stereo replaces the original, which undoubtedly included a cassette player, and the hatch area comes complete with original T-top storage bags. The Corvette-derived L98 was big news in 1989, and putting it in an F-body spelled disaster for the mighty Mustang 5.0. But that wasn''t enough for the owner of this one, so it was upgraded with AFR aluminum heads, a Comp Cams camshaft, TPIS mini-ram intake, a full roller valvetrain, and Edelbrock Ti-Tech headers. For reliability, it also includes a big BeCool aluminum radiator, 200-amp alternator, and 24 lb/hr injectors. The 700R4 4-speed automatic shifts quickly enough to make it seem like second gear is connected to your right foot, and it slices through traffic with ease thanks to upgraded sway bars and a strut-tower brace that improves steering response. A stainless Borla cat-back exhaust system gives it an unbeatable exhaust note and will last practically forever, so you know this wasn''t a cut-rate build. Yet it still rolls on its original gold alloys and wears 245/50/16 performance radials, as new. The ultimate low-profile high-profile car, this GTA offers something for everyone, especially if your first love is performance. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Dallas/Fort Worth showroom.
