1986 was the triumphant return of the Corvette convertible, and this Dark Red Metallic roadster is a 56,534-mile survivor that''s almost guaranteed future collectability. It''s also perhaps the most affordable way to drive the open Corvette you''ve always wished for. Perhaps you remember what a big deal the C4 was with it hit the streets, and the look has become legendary in the intervening years. This was the fastest thing on the streets in 1986 and it ain''t too shabby today, either. The shiny paint and wedge-shaped profile still look great in 2013, and given the outstanding care this one has apparently received since day one, it will still attract appreciative glances at red lights and local cruise nights. Fit and finish are as good as any C4 and it shows few signs of being nearly three decades old. The chin spoiler isn''t scuffed, the rockers haven''t been blasted by gravel, and there are very few chips in the usual spots. The giant clamshell hood fits well and doesn''t vibrate the way tired Corvettes tend to do, and both the front and rear body caps fit flush and haven''t cracked with age. I mean, this car is very well preserved. Gray leather is a nice contrast to the dark red paint and the C4 Corvette''s interior has always been a driver''s environment. Everything remains in good order, with the driver''s seat showing the right amount of wear for the mileage and age and a passenger''s seat in excellent shape. The digital instruments are all fully functional and provide a wonderful ''80s bit of tech that still looks cool today. The 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission is the one you want in your early C4, much more usable than the clunky Doug Nash 4+3 setup and the perfect point-and-shoot weapon for traffic. Luxury options include A/C, power windows and locks, cruise control, and a high-end AM/FM/cassette stereo with a graphic equalizer (remember those?) under the passenger''s side of the dash. A black canvas top remains in outstanding condition and folds easily into the well behind the seats. Chevy''s fuel injected L98 is legendary for its torque and indestructible nature, and in this Corvette it makes 230 horsepower and 330 pounds of torque. While those numbers may seem modest today, the car is startling quick off the line and punches through traffic with the kind of effortless ease of a thoroughbred. Ridiculously easy to modify, it''s quite rare to find one that still carries all its factory equipment and given how clean it is, it really shouldn''t be a surprise with this car. It snaps to life easily thanks to the wonders of modern fuel injection, idles with a muscular rumble from the upgraded exhaust, and with a performance chip in the ECM, it''s a few tenths quicker on the big end. The suspension is sure-footed and track-ready, and the C4 was famous for its braking performance, augmented with ABS. Wide aluminum wheels are unblemished and shiny wearing fat 255/50/16 BFG radials that were like steamrollers back in ''86. The first of any Corvette always has interest to collectors, and this clean, low-mileage C4 roadster is surely one that will be of interest for years to come. Call today!
