Few Camaros are more recognizable than the 1969 pace cars. This pace car convertible is a Los Angeles built car, so there''s no Z11 on the cowl tag, but the color combination (50-A paint and 720 interior) was unique to the pace car and conclusively identifies it as the real deal. The unique paint scheme consisting of Dover White bodywork with Hugger Orange stripes was laid down according to the factory patterns and it looks brilliant even today, 42 years later. The owner opted not to install the Indy 500 decals on the doors, and that was the same choice the original buyer faced in ''69-most enthusiasts seem to prefer the car without the graphics. All pace cars were RS/SS models, and included the hidden headlights, cowl induction hood, and rear deck spoiler. The orange houndstooth interior is unique to the pace car as well, and it''s as cool as it is outrageous. This one has been fully restored to better than new condition, with tight fits, no sags or dimples in the seat covers, and fresh black carpets that tie it all together. And while the pace cars came with a lot of standard features, things like the console, auxiliary gauges, and wood steering wheel were extra-cost options, along with the 4-speed and power windows, which are highly unusual in any F-body convertible. The gauges are all functional, and the original AM radio still lives in the dash. Overhead there''s a bright white vinyl convertible top, which is covered by a matching orange vinyl boot when it''s stowed. Power for this one comes from a rebuilt 350 cubic inch V8, which has been restored to look authentic with a few upgrades such as the finned aluminum valve covers. The cowl induction assembly is complete and functional, and it''s equipped with power steering and brakes to make driving a pleasure. The block wears its own coat of Chevy Orange paint that works especially well with the pace car regalia. Long tube headers feed a dual exhaust system, and the 12-bolt out back is stuffed with easy-cruising 3.55 gears. The floors appear to be original and in excellent condition. Pace cars received 15-inch Rally wheels as standard equipment, and these are shod with BFGoodrich radials that look great in the wheel wells.
